@fulcizombie
if we can discriminate against LBP for its low price
then can we also just ignore Wii & 360 sales n not compare them to PS3 as they are much lower priced??
UK PS3 titles dropping,
wow at xbox 360 titles,
13 Xbox 360 , 5 PS3 titles
@BKK: Do you know if 1.2 to 1.3 million units per week is normal for the UK or this it is still pretty high and the number is likely to decline in the coming months?
It's not even normal for January, so far 2009 is way up on 2008 (+37%), and 2008 was a record year by quite some margin. Sales traditionally decline through the summer though.
Ok, so 1.2-1.3 million are very good sales. Maybe it can be explained by the current exchange rates which makes importing games from England very attractive for other PAL countries.
I'm not convinced that online sales make up a significant proportion of total sales, I think the much more significant factor is the current generation UK installed base nearly doubling over this time last year.
Ok, that is quite a big install base growth. But then again, I have no idea how many games were still sold on PS2 last January and how it compares to this year.
On a completely different note, Dutch charts for week 6 are available:

The 2007 PS2 software figure here actually includes other platforms such as GBA etc, but the bulk should be PS2. We can see those sales dropped by around 10m from 2007 to 2008, and were already well past their peak. PS2 sold around 100k/week through 2008, but I'd guess is it was higher towards the front and end of the year. PS2 is nearly dead in the UK now, but current gen' consoles (excluding PSP) have more than made up for the PS2's decline.
