Forums - PC - My New Build

I must say that my new rig that i'm about to buy is almost thew same as yours.

My CPu is also icore7 2,66 ghz
ram is corsair 3Gig at 1333mhz
gpu is geforce gtx 265
blu ray/dvd player x4
Seagate 1T hardisk 32 Mb cache
The motherboard is MSI build, can't remember the specific type
Case is Coolmaster hightower with 2 fans 180mm
Psu is 750 of uknown origins (absolutely no idea what company it's gonna be as i gave my supplier a free choice here)

Basically you have twice as much as Ram as i do and that's it. Although i don't know whether it's gonna make a difference, ddr3 are really efficient and my 3 gigs will be more than enough for any home application that's out right now.

Viper,

Out of curiousity, why do u put so much muscles on a CPU relative to the GPU?

i am thinking the same thing

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Maybe because there's no point in buying the best of what's out there in gfx since new and better cards are coming out this year. Buying icore7's should rather seen as an investment.

Am I?   I could buy 2 CPU's of higher spec but didn't.  There are only a few GPU's of higher spec but look at the cost differences.

The nVidia 280 GTX is $300, the ATi HD 4870X2 is $415 and the nVidia 295 GTX is $500.   Passing up an HD 4870 for $160 would be madness.   I'm considering buying a second one ($320 total) and running them in CrossFire.

Another factor is I plan to hang on to the CPU longer than the GPU.

You might want to update your PSU to something like PC power and cooling, make it a little quieter and a little more stable/reliable for not much more.

Saphire with custom cooling $175 after MIR

Ditto with 1GB ram. $205 after MIR

HIS IceQ 4 overclocked $205 after MIR

They are all quieter and cooler.

Your build is amazing, but I heard that some of the cases you caught on fire. Something about the connectors not properly secure. Just warning you because you would not want that rig to go on fire.

I think it's unwise to choose a 512Mb GPU for such a strong sistem.

There's already use of 1GB RAM on GPU in many new games, especially if you go 1080p.

That really doesn't make a difference because he has a lot of system ram. The GPU will share the ream with the system if it has to. I would make a difference if he only had two or three gigs but since he has 6 it doesn't matter as much

That also usually an issue at 2560 x 1600, not 1920 x 1080. I've not seen a GPU chart showing the 512 MB of GDDR5 RAM being a bottleneck at 1920x 1080.

I just built a similar system:

i7 940

Rampage ii mobo

6GB ddr3 1600mhz

GTX 285 OC

Cosmos 1000 case

Corsair 1000 W PS

The Rampage 2 actually overclocks the cpu automatically, it's hilarious. I'm typically running active cores on the i7 at 3.2 to 3.3 Ghz without tweaking.

I run Crysis on a stock cfg with 8x AA at 1600x1250 (or somehting like that) with everything at max at butter framerates. Damn that game is gorgeous...sorry KZ2, as pretty as you are, you're late to the graphics party by 2 years.

Enjoy your rig. I've been out of PC gaming for like 6 years, and I can't imagine why now that I have got back into it.
