Not to add to the fire here, but here's a post of Kantor saying that many people here had claimed that KZ2 would be a Halo-killer.

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/post.php?id=1692556

I post this to give a bit of weight to the claim of KZ2 overhype, being that it came from someone who is obviously not a PS3 hater.

My interpretation of that post:KZ2 would be a very good game, possibly better than Halo, but nothing can "kill" Halo. How does that = "KZ2=Halo Killer?"

Don't spin things. Leave it to PR.

He says, in the first and second paragraph, "Saying Killzone 2 will be a fantastic game, and saying it will be a Halo killer, are two entirely different things.  I have personally never claimed the latter, but many people here have. Yes, it will be fantastic. Yes, it has a good chance of being better than Halo. But that's not the point. The whole _ Killer phrase shouldn't be used until AFTER a game has been released".

His post wasn't hyping it.  My point was to show he thought others were.

And those people who said so could be from SDF for all you know. The point is, we still don't have names to back these outrageous claims people keep regurgitating and hurling aginst ps3 fans.

He said "here", not SDF. In any case, why would a person who is obviously not biased against the game or the console make this up?  Not that I'm saying, of course, that this proves it %100, but I would think that it would lend at least some credibility to the claims of overhype of this game.

1 instance where it could lend some credibility.

100's of instances where it lends no credibility.

Which one you believe? Just think of this, we have gone over a month now of people claiming he/she said this and he/she said that. Best part of it all though is that 1 month has gone by and not 1 link has surfaced to lend credibility to that argument. In other words, that argument holds no water.

To me it just seems like some people are beginning to run out of ammunition.

I think some people would feel a lot better if they just sat down and had themselves a nice meal.

So we're officially allowed to apply what Mark Matthews (not sure if I got that right) says on youtube to all x360 fans now right? Get real man. Attack people for what they said not what chameleons said on www.ps3sells100milperweek.com

If its all over internet, its hard to miss. I am not talking about just one guy whos insane and telling things that are not true. Lets check for example wikipedia article about killzone. Oo... Theres 'halo-killer' again. Can you now say it didn't happen? Try googling killzone + halo killer. :)

Killzone received a great deal of hype in June 2003 when video game websites began releasing previews and rumors about the game, having been dubbed a "Halo-killer".

Oh, but wikipedia and google are evil sites who worship evil MS!

@Euphoria14

Lol, I am not attacking vgchartz ppl only. I am just saying that theres way too much hype and expectations with Sony games. Also I am trying to say that fans tend to be like mindless flocks of sheep who follow their leader whatever happens. ;)

@appolose - I think what Euphoria, CGI, myself, and others are objecting to is being grouped in with fanboys around the world.  We are excited about the prospects of Killzone being a very good game.  Its quality is in no way diminished by the existence of Halo or Gears of War.  In fact, they are completely unrelated.  If you are going to claim that "others" are making these claims, then you have to give us names or links to these claims.  I think it is the responsibility of each console's fanbase to self-police these issues.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

I'm still not sure why this doesn't count; why would Kantor make it up?  He has no motive to.  In avny event here is a thread discussing PS3 games and overhyping in general, in which PS3 fans and non-PS3 fans alike feel that certain PS3 games do receive an unmerited amount of hype.

While they could be making it up, I would think that would be highly unlikely.

Okami

To lavish praise upon this title, the assumption of a common plateau between player and game must be made.  I won't open my unworthy mouth.

Why does it bother you so much though? Are people not allowed to be excited for something unless they get permission first?

Why is it unlikely? Because it is PS3 fans?

I see no reason why we should believe those who have no proof against those who have proof on their side.

Do explain.

"With all the talk of Killzone 2 coming out for the Playstation 3, you’d think that we would be a little bit nostalgic and – dare we say – depressed. After all, Killzone 2 has been billed by many journalists and fans as a “Halo Killer,” a game that will finally put Bungie’s reign of FPS supremacy on home consoles to rest. Killzone is going to be an amazing game, but calling it a “Halo Killer” doesn’t really do it justice. As far as we are concerned, Halo has been dead for quite some time"

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Like they say.

Innocent until proven guilty, and we have yet to be proven guilty.

friend, we're talking about Killzone 2 not Killzone. Everyone has agreed that Killzone was a mediocre game, we can move on now.

Secondly, we're not "armies" or "factions" with "alliances", it still doesn't make sense to criticize someone for what another said especially on a whole different website to boot. I know some of us have gotten too absorbed in the console wars to see reality...don't fall into the trap.
