They need to charge a penny (1 cent) per message in home. Then they would be making the big bucks. A 100 message conversation would earn them a dollar, and the people being shafted by this wouldn't notice.

Neoraf said: lol... 1 million from Home... Big deal... Think of the millions made by Microsoft in Xbox Live. Sorry, but 1 million is nothing in this economic crisis. Sony should make us pay for PSN. The Microsoft Live structure on Xbox is a real success, Sony should build from that. |
1 million dollars from selling virtual furniture/clothes is nothing? I'd call that amazing. If Sony made you pay for online, I wouldn't. They would have to dramatically improve it for me to even consider paying for it.
WoW has a huge economy for selling virtual items. It's not a new concept nor is a million a huge sum.

Is it profitable?? $1 million in revenue is a lot.. but as Home made a profit yet? |
This is just total revenue but just how much virtual clothing has brought in to Sony.
@FishyJoe
I concur wholeheartedly with your assessment. The virtual market for many massive titles basically wipes its ass with this sum. I am actually greatly disappointed by these figures. I have said it before, and I will say it again. Sony would have done better by using one of their subscription online games as a base.
Not only would it have arrived sooner, but the more competitive nature would have encouraged more time spent in the world, and thus more economic spending. I have always found that a balanced world based around competitive interaction is always a strong motivator for spending. Basically Home needs guns and swords to use, and something to kill to earn cred. Nothing inspires spending more then the fear that someone will be a lot better then you.
You need not even predicate the world on everyone making purchases. Make a system where you can earn rewards, and then the lazy or time constrained bastards are fast to buy their way up. Just like every other virtual world. The black market is based upon that need. Do that and Sony could make a real mint letting community members cheat their way up the ranks.
It had to have made more. I mean, I spent $700,000 on Home all by myself!

They said that 3.4 million had logged on. And given this is virtual clothing, I'm surprised.
