Zexen, the world cup will always be THE event for devoted football fans all over the world, no matter where it takes place. I don't understand why some of you think it should "only be hosted by countries with a passion for football".

Do you think football is the No.1 sport in Switzerland and Austria? Actually most Swiss and Austrian people had to be convinced by their own governments to show at least some interest in the tournament. So it's certainly not the most popular sport in these two countries, but still they hosted the EURO last year - and I say: why not?

Is ice hockey big in Germany? No, most people over here are not really interested in this sport at all, yet Germany will host its 6th world championship tournament in 2010.

Hold the event in one of the green countries, the world cup brings along massive profits for the host country. A country that regards it as a B sport does not deserve the money.

Your example of Switzerland/Austria is not true.

Thats interesting, I didnt know we had so much players

No, you don't have many people.

Just kidding, of course, a joke between neighbours

Yeah, no prob. And talking about that, we sould send a bid to make a WC between the 2 countries, like with the Dakar.

Yeah, sure, as long as we get to host the final match. You can keep the 3rd place match

Anyway, the Dakar went pretty well, so I don't think it would be a problem. Of course, we both hosted WCs alone, and I think the FIFA doesn't like joint bids (I read that somewhere)

So according to this picture the inhabitants of Switzerland and Austria have more passion for football than, say, the people from Argentina and Brazil? Thanks for the undeniable proof, draik. I was such a fool.

I'm running out of ideas, you guys have enlightened me with your persuasive argumentation: The USA doesn't deserve to host another football world cup because some of you think the country does not show enough passion for the sport and because some others of you think they use the forbidden word to name it.

Now go, convince Sepp Blatter. Don't forget your wallets.

No thanks I would like the final Lol, but obviously there would be discussion.

Anyway, times have changed and I read somewhere that someone said that not even if we joined with you we could make a WC, its more expensive, or something like that, Idk

 mmm......., I dont like you

Thank you, pastro. I hope you don't mind that I still like you, even though I don't know you.

I don't like Sepp Blatter, but no matter how much football fans will discuss this topic all over the world, it's only his opinion that counts. He acts as if football belonged to him and nobody else and he will give the world cups of 2018 and 2022 to whichever country he wants.

No, okr, you're not reading the map properly. In different shades of green are countries that have football as the no.1 sport and in shades of "red" (dunno what color it is) the countries that don't. Now, the shades of green measure how much players are there per habitant, it has nothing to do with passion. Now, I think that every green country fills the "passion" requirement, of course there are a lot of countries that don't fill the economic part, that's another story.

And of course, what we say has nothing to do with the Fifa. I can think what I want and I'm sure the FIFA will do other things. That doesn't change the fact that I don't want a WC hosted in the US (or Canada, or China, or N.Korea, for that matter)

Actually the '94 World Cup is the most succesful of all time in attendance and profit for FIFA, so maybe they'll consider USA again

@zexen: There's no way that football is the No.1 sport in Switzerland or Austria, no matter what color this picture shows and how many players these countries have. But whatever.

I can understand your arguments why you don't want USA, Canada or China to host the WC (North Korea doesn't have any chance to get it), but personally I never cared that much where it took place (though I loved to see more South and Middle American hosts in the future - but this won't happen as Africa, Asia, Australia and NA are way more interested to host nowadays). It's just a tournament, many games will disappoint, some will be epic and, like always, I will watch every one of them on TV.
