Forums - Sony - PS3 undertracked on VG Chartz?

currently on VGC it shows the PS3 sales WW at 19.9m... but according to this article on gamespot it stated differently.

"...and the PS3's sales life-to-date worldwide total reached 21.31 million as of December 31."

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6203876.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;3

...thats almost 1.5million off...quite a big difference. I'd question and maybe think it'd including PS3 that were also shipped, but they used the word 'sales'. What do you think?

taken from the article,

"and the PS3's sales life-to-date worldwide total reached 21.31 million as of December 31"

it does sound like its been undertracked. but where do they pull the numbers from?

I have no idea =P they also said that Xbox360 already reached 28mil by the end of December...sumthin's not quite rite sumwhere lol

ITs probably not by much if it is, maybe 250-500K

Sony considers any PS3 shipped to retail as sold.

Vgchartz tracks PS3 actually sold from retail. The discrepancy of the 1.5 million was Sony sending to many to retail and not enough of them selling, resulting in a glut of inventory currently sitting in stores.

hmmm. fishy... I generally trust gamespot but same for VGC.

crap

it's the whole shipped to store Vs. sold to cusotmers,,,plus PS3 is at 19.2 for end of december.

so Sony has shipped 21.31 and VGC says it has sold 19.2 million to customers ,,,more than 2 million on shelves seems too much but we can't prove anything.I made a similar thread last night but ps3 was adjusted down instead of up (from 19.3 to 19.2)

I doubt that Gamespot is a sight that is dedicated to tracking videogame sales numbers. Probably some numbers pulled from some other source.

VGChartz♥♥♥♥♥FOREVER

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

odd delayed double post

Well maybe they express (life to date) differently on that site..

when Sony/MS/Nin/ ship systems they (Sell) the systems to the distributors, whether it be Wal*Mart, Best Buy, Gamestop, Frys, etc..

So to them it's filed under Sold / Profit, not in home.. for the site I mean.

Just saying..
