I hate it in real life, I hate it when it happens in videogames.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Trust me. It does happen!

yes, you can have to much realism.

Take America's Army for example. It is realistic in many ways (they use it as a simulator in the Army) and I love playing with my friends, but many people complain about some of the "realism". For example, 1-2 bullets and your dead and don't come back until the round restarts. Most people don't like that.

Again, if you got shot in the leg and the game made you fall to the ground unable to move, you'd probably think it's lame.

Anyways, yes you can go for realism, but in most cases you can't make it perfectly realistic, or people will get bored. Now, some genre's like sports don't need to have fantasy put in them, but most do need a tiny bit of fantasy mixed in to get a good game.

personally, I prefer games that are mostly fantasy based, but kept in line with some realism, like Mario for example. Sure it isn't realistic, but they keep within the bounds of what we would expect from a person

Yep, you can get too realistic for most people. Usually the threshold is reached when one starts putting basic bodily needs like hunger, thirst, sex etc. into adventure games, IRL damage into shooters (bleeding, dismemberment, no magic medikits and/or regeneration etc), or even realistic space physics in shmups, and so on.

There are, however, some games that should be as realistic as possible - there's a reason flight simulators are used to train pilots.

Yea, a game about going to school and having to do school work would be to realistic for me.

Nintendo still doomed?

in general i don't like realism in my games...

...but if they were to make a porno game....

Absolutely. The reason I favor thw Wii/DS this generation is due to the general lack of realism in their games. This is also why I already loathe WM+ and all the "great" ways it can be used in certain games.

I hate dying after being hit with 2 bullets.

Sure it's realistic, but I'm not exactly a trained special ops soldier either.
