Yep, you can get too realistic for most people. Usually the threshold is reached when one starts putting basic bodily needs like hunger, thirst, sex etc. into adventure games, IRL damage into shooters (bleeding, dismemberment, no magic medikits and/or regeneration etc), or even realistic space physics in shmups, and so on.

There are, however, some games that should be as realistic as possible - there's a reason flight simulators are used to train pilots.
