Nothing compared to "MAG" |
Also very generic... but at least I know what MAG is... a very generic game but on a much larger scope.

Ninja Blade got a 33/40 from Famitsu 360 - which is pretty good given the fact it's from From Software. That's not saying much, but it could wind up with near Ninja Gaiden 2 numbers. NB won't push the 360 past 10k next week. However, I'd expect it to hold steady, or gain a little bit at 7-8k. Not much considering the other consoles, but superb given the 360's track record in Japan.

So it's a Ninja Gaiden type game then?

Yakuza 3 and the FFVII/FFXIII bundle will do far more for the ps3 than anything RE5 could hope to do. SFIV will probably do more than RE5 as well.
Look at RE4's sales compared to RE1-3's sales in Japan to see what I mean. RE5 is even more westernized than RE4. Things can only go downhill from there.

Basically Ninja Gaiden in an open world.
Hardware sales are down 416k on the same 4 weeks of january last year. That is pretty bad. In the next few weeks this time last year we had some Wii games like Smash Bros so expect the numbers this year to fall even further. As some guy pointed out yesterday (that guy would be me) the UK now has a bigger gaming industry then Japan. Time to remove Japan from the front page perhaps?

Wasn't MAG suppose to be a placeholder name? What sort of lame game is named after its own genre? Thats like creating a first person shooter called FPS or a role playing game called RPG...
On the topic of Ninja Blade; the game will do absolutely nothing and will need a miracle to stay on the top ten chart for more than a week. Consider that Ninja Gaiden 2 did 26,963 in its first week before plummeting to under 5k the next week; Ninja Blade comes from a lesser developer, is a new IP and is launching in one of the most quietest time of the year for Japan, it will be lucky to top 20k the first week before drifting into obscurity (in Japan).

Japan has more than twice the population and a higher HDI than the UK.
That's why it matters more than the UK....I think.

Not really about that though is it. You could say China or India were more important because they have a population each of over 2billion people. What is important is not the geographical place in the world but the amount of computer hardware/game sales. And now the UK is growing fast while Japan is shrinking. Not just in sales but in making of games too. Titles such as GTA4 etc.. have done better then any Japanese game recently. The 21st century would appear to show the gap between Japan and UK in gaming terms is now very small. Not bad for a place with half the population.
