So basically this doesnt hold a candle to Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3... ok than.

How do you even get that from his impression??

Because C&C:RA actually has depth. Plus the comedy aspect of how the story is told.

Yep, this game is going to be a streamlined RTS. It could probably be called an 'arcade' RTS. Base building is extremely streamlined. You can have multiple bases, but only in predefined spots that you find on the map. Is this a bad thing? For some, yes. There are still reseach trees, a variety of turrets, cover emplacements on the map, etc, to provide for varied strategies and varied experiences. It will be less about building your infrastructure and more about planning you attacks. If you love to micromanage your RTSs, this game is not for you. If you love the army building aspect of RTS games, you will probably enjoy yourself.

Well that sounds awesome.  Real RTS's don't have that base building crap.  So anything that minimizes that pointless activity is appreciated.

What?

WarCraft, StRCraft, Command and Conquer, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc arent real RTSs? Last time I checked they are the big names of the RTS genre. And guess what, they have base building.

Yes they have base building, which completely ruins those games for me.  Base/City building is for turn-based games.  unfortunately, there is very little S in RTS' these days.  The games you mentioned are just click fests, although WC3 tried to improve on that.  WH Shadow of a horned rat, for all of its flaws, was a much more enjoyable game than the ones you mentioned.  I enjoy a good city/army building game, MOM/GALCIV/MOO are all fantastic, but it just doesn't work well in a realtime game.  Of course, most people probably disagree.

I am very interested in Demigod as it seems more up my alley.

I love RTS but I've never had fun playing one on a console, so this having a demo is great. I'm looking forward to trying it and seeing if I enjoy it....

As long as it doesn't turn out as bad as C&C64 i'll probably pick it up when i finally have the spare cash for a X360.

Hmm... thinking about it there's starting to be a fair few games i wanna buy for it.

"Real" RTS's don't have any of that "base building crap"?  Are you retarded?  So basically, there's only like 3 decent RTS's out there, period.  BTW, there aren't any RTS's out there without the "base building crap" that people play in tournaments for money.  Starcraft, the biggest rts ever, has quite a bit of that base building crap.  So will the sequal, and it will be awesome.  Sorry your lame ass won't be playing it.  You won't be missed.

The problem with the games that you mention, particularily starcraft, is that there is essential very very little strategy involved.  The outcome is primarily decided by who can micro the best.  Those games aren't much removed from button mashers like DMC or NG in terms of strategic depth.  I prefer my strategy games with more meat and less micro.  Now Halo wars seems upfront about its action heritage, so I will try the demo and evaluate it appropriately.

Snag the demo. RTS games aren't for everyone - I don't like them much, but this game really changed my opinion. I will be buying - not because it's a Halo game - but because I enjoyed it and kept replaying it.

When I first started playing, I just ordered my forces to unleash deadly force. However, my first encounter with a Scarab made me rethink that methodology. I learned to let the Wolverines sit back and unleash long-range shelling, which was much more devastating than just having them mobile. I also went with few air units, as the Scarab and this hammer-of-dawn like laser would just fry them like breaded catfish.

It's only so many ways to play this demo, but I'd definitely recommend upgrading your forts as much as possible so they can do major fighting without you being present. They can repell small raiding parties, but if you take too long and let the Covenant build a few bigger vehicles, you will end up staying closer to your forts defending them.

Guys, there is base building. It has just been streamlined. No rotations, no leaving space for units to go through, etc. There is a predetermined amount of 'slots' that you can build onto your main building. Then there are sections of the map that you find where you can build additional bases. These bases also have the 'slots' to build your different buildings.
