It wasn't 1 game....

It was like 6 or 7 games... and mostly used as a vehicle to push the Playstation on an untapped market.

Well, that article states that 6-7 games will be paid for with this £4m budget, across two platforms, in a well developed market, that are quickly losing marketshare.

I'm not doubting you, particularly as you now have IllegalPaladin backing you up... but something just doesn't compute.

Is this game a loss leader? I think it must be.

Remember they are not just advertising Killzone 2, but also the PS3. These KZ2 ads help keep the PS3 in the publics mind.

20 million alone in the UK would cover a large sum of the dev cost, then add the rest of the EU + NA and Sony have themselves a big selling game. Remember this game is first party, Sony get a much larger sum of money back for each game sold so this game will make Sony a hefty profit.

Considering that market value represents everyone operating in the market I don't think that's going to help with the main point. I still don't see a £100 million marketing budget for a single game being feasible especialy if it's being funded for in a weaker currency ( isn't Square Enix based in japan ) .If they could even gross £100 million in the UK that would be amazing to me but I don't know exactly how many copies FF games sell in the region .
