Forums - Sony - I'm close to opening up my PS3 controller...

I think most of us can agree that the triggers suck.

I've been playing Grid alot lately and while my "good" controller was recharging, I never realized how bad my other one is when you hold down the right trigger for a long time - as it starts to get pushed down, there's this point where it feels a tad bit jammed. It didn't take long for it to bother me enough to switch back.

What I wanna know is if it's possible to kinda "restrengthen" the controller - after getting lots of use, everything starts to feel slightly used......I noticed that both of the sticks are slightly pressed in (probably from sprinting/knifing in CoD5). And of course, I think some of us know what happens when friends come over and play a fighting game - Soul Calibur 4 always seems to unleash some button-mashing rage from my friends.

Anyways, all I wanna fix is the right trigger on my "bad" controller. Has anyone opened up their controller before? I heard it was a pain to put back together.

I for one, have not experienced A SINGLE fault with my PS3 controllers, I think I have dropped my PS2/PS3 controllers over 300 times each and not a scratch, the PS2 controller is having minor faults because of dust though.

No problems with sticky analog sticks/triggers either, I love the new triggers :D

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

I too hate the PS3 controller's triggers, they just weren't meant to be there.

Also, as a person that's owned a PS2 for at least the last 5 years and a PS1 before that, I've never experienced a problem with the PS1 and PS2 controllers, which makes the PS3's more frustrating.

Problems with my PS3 controller:
- Left analogue starts making clicking noises when I rotate it full (or close to full) circle

- Triggers have no feel to them. "spongey" is how I'd put it.

Sorry, I can't give you any advice on repairs, because I don't dare open mine.
Probably my biggest complaint about this generation, I've been gaming for 15 years now and have never had a fault with any of my systems that wasn't caused by me, and now this generation, I've had a RRoD and 2 faulty PS3 controllers, neither of which could have been caused by improper use (I game as much as I always have and my PS3 controllers obviously have been used less than my PS2 ones).

You do have a bit of a point there mate. I would actually prefer the R2 and L2 triggers to be further down and not so up high with the r1 and l1 triggers, it's kind of uncomfortable imo.

if you take it apart, take pictures and document it for other people who may try to do the same thing.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

i dont mint the triggers there just a bit to sensitive on the sixaxis and ive never had a problem with them on the DS3

my only problem with sixaxis was it was too light.

but the dualshock 3 fixed that. and a prefer LR 2 ps2 dualshock buttons but the difference its minimal.

yes...they really are a pain to put back together.

It's good when your fingers slide on the R2 button.

Yea, the worry is if you take it apart, how likely you are to F it up totally. Still, if you're at the point where you're tempted to just buy a new controller, it might be worth trying.
