Anybody know where I can find the LTD numbers for the PS2?

Sony said 138.15 million in their financials.

On which page?

Fourteen.

Add those with the new numbers. Something like this:

PS2

-March 31, 2000 1.41
-March 31, 2001 10.61
-March 31, 2002 28.68
-March 31, 2003 51.2
-March 31, 2007 117.89
-March 31, 2008 131.62
-Dec 31, 2008 138.15

Thanks, but that's not exactly what I'm looking for. Wikipedia has the PS2 at 140 million units shipped.  This is not correct, in order to change this number I have to find a reliable source that states the number of consoles shipped. And adding the numbers myself would be original research. But maybe I can use this.

Just my luck the graphs aren't compatible.

They're not compatible because one is production shipments and one is retail shipments. Here are retail shipments through June.

Add the last two quarters from the following table to get up to date totals through December:

Thanks, I might be able to achieve some results with this.

Here's a transcript of a question from the Q&A at Sony's Earnings Release:

Q: My second question is related to Playstation number 3, and the profitability is increasing, and when are you going to be seeing profit in the field of hardware? and in the third quarter there was some reduction in the unit, what is your forecast for this?

A: If we base our projections on the present exchange rate to continue and if introduction of the 45 nano chips (it is being used in manufacturing already), but in view of that by latter half of next year sometime there I believe that we can see the improved margin and start to see profit.

Q: Point of confirmation, when you say later next year, is it later the second half of the calender year 2009, or the fiscal year 2009.

A: Fiscal year 2009, that's March 2010.

Sony Gaming Division is doing a lot better than the experts thought.

Spring PS3 price drop confirmed.

So I wonder if that means they will be more hardware revisions by then or if they think the currency will have adjusted by then.

They said if the exchange rate remains the same then they expect PS3 hardware to become profitable in the second half of FY 09 (Oct 09 - Mar 10) after the introduction of 45nm Cell. So yes, there will be more hardware revisions, infact they're already manufacturing 45nm Cell, but it takes time until that eventually makes it to store shelves.

So.... This isn't too bad. Isn't it?

If they already have the 45nm CELL why is it going to take until the second half of next fiscal year, approximately 9 months.  The redesign of the boards and power supply should not take that long.  They should be kicking those puppies off the assembly line near term.  It just seems sluggish for what they are doing, unless they are doing other revisions as well to drop the price.  Not really expecting an answer but this just sounds sloppy.
