Forums - Gaming - One Console Future ?

This guy did not mean their would only be ONE console, he said in the speech that Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung, etc,, would all make consoles to the same spec. It would be just like DVD, and then we would getv a new format every 10 years or so, or standards. This would allow the game industry to drop games down to the 20 -30 dollar price range making the game industry take off like never before. If this happend video games would become as much of a household item as a dvd or vhs player. Anyone that thinks this is a bad idea can go ask for their head to be cut off and used as a basketball right now.

Will this happen though? Not for a while and definatly not next gen, but yes one day it will happen. One day we will all live in virtual reality and be completely controlled by the government, but that is another story for another time.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. I don't see it happening, at least in the near future. Dyack, whatta noob. :)

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself."

One console only, kind of like the early 80's and Atari. That would mean no competition and lots of crappy games like E.T. No thanks.

Although, competition did result in the Atari 5200 and the Sega 32X, so maybe one system wouldn't be that bad.

All three companies making the hardware together, it could work. As long as Nintendo designs it and MS is not responsible for testing it.

Sorry, a guy from a company that can't get it games to run anywhere says something, and basically its BS.

Dyack's arguments pointed towards the commodization of automobiles and cell phones as unarguable proof that all technology, including videogames, are headed towards a single spec future, with software taking the center stage.

So why is there Porsche, BMW, VW and Toyota. Are they all building the same cars? Why the hell is there an IPhone? PDA's?

Sorry, he takes two examples for his point, and both don't fit? It is good to have a choice in the video game market. You can buy a cheap, different not graphic heavy console, a graphic shooter heavy console or a graphic heavy mega multimedia console at the moment. Sorry, but the current situation is perfect for the customer, because he has a choice! We don't have a monopoly. This gen is the best of all, IMHO. His argument does not make sense to me, besides: What he wants already exists. Its called windows and Direct X.

monopoly is a bad thing. Look at your phone/cable provider, no competition. You end up with high fee and shitty service.

At the pace of VG industry, I am guessing that there will be at least another console/handheld system entering. N-Gage, I am looking at you (re-entry, at least).

Also: the easier it is to make money off of consoles, the lower the standard gets. If you make a shitty game that 0.001% of console owners buy, but there are 1 billion owners, that's still 10,000 games sold. Of course, the good companies will still make great games for the high payoff, but cash-ins always flourish in a target-rich environment.

Expect Dyack's (impossible) utopia to have a worse crud-to-cream ratio than ever.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
