You can't compare nation wide price cut supported by huge marketing campaign to the sale in a shop which desperatly tries to avoid bancrupcy.

I think a lot of people know these stores are having a clearance sale. Isn't it all over the news?

I was not comparing it to a nationwide price cut, all I was pointing out is that even when the price is as low as £199 or £249, the PS3 is still not selling, the price was very well advertised around the store. All I was trying to do was point out that maybe a price cut will not be the answer. I think they need to change the image of the PS3 in the UK, and that means making it cool and a must have item.

Unfortunately the PS3 has little or no ads in the media in the UK. I think it has to do with the fact that in the UK the PS3 is the cheapest in Europe and hence not very profitable for Sony to sell more there.

People are even less likely to buy a £250 console on impulse, as you do at clearance sales. However, even if there is an official price cut people will only buy more if it is advertised massively.

with the world economy the way it is, sony needs to cut the ps3 price to $250 worldwide on 80hdd and $350 or lower on the 160 hdd or they wont come close to catching the 360. i hope sony does something soon, i want them to do well.

^^ I don't see the PS3 going less than $300 this generation unless they want to take out a shitload of important hardware to reduce costs.

I think the huge problem is the design of the PS3. It doesn't look modern and I podish like the 360 or wii. The odd Spiderman letters don't help

360 looks like a old dell desktop, and wii its simple yet intuitive white box, i don't think it's that, many people would love to have one but 399$-499$ (here) price is not nice, the 360 launch at that price and only sold 5 million it's first year, i didn't start selling til it go below 299$ and seriously selling after hitting 199$.

What now? How does a matte finish look posh and modern where a gloss doesn't? What?
