Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu (1/28) sales

That is a pretty heinous drop so much so I referenced the global sales figures. I was shocked that it has gone unnoticed, but the console market in Japan according to this sites figures accounts for only twelve percent of the worlds console market. Last year I did a similar analysis, and it accounted for sixteen percent. Hell this week the market accounted according to these numbers for eight percent of global console sales.

Were these trends to persist it is very likely that Japan will constitute less then ten percent of the global market in a few months. That is really insane when you think about it. The only bright side is the 360 is increasing year over year.

Wii is definitely declining, but people in panic mode should really consider that Wii isn't even bundled with a game in Japan. They can bundle with Wii Fit, Wii Sports or Mario Kart before even introducing new colours or a pricecut.

Also don't forget that Wii was tracking exactly like PS2 in Japan through December.

yea but that isn't going to last long at this rate. The market is just dying now, i hope it won't last long.

is it ?

it's nowhere near dying, it just changed : people have DS + PSP (+ new model of either) and then maybe Wii and/or PS3... everybody cant buy 10 systems !

Japan is facing what could best be described as a once in a life recession. The downward sales trend is relevant. End of story.

Where are White Knight Chronicles and Gran Turismo 5? Or are those bundled and uncounted games? or did both just fall that much?

GT5 is in Famitsu, but I would expect to see White Knight between 31-40.

Very nice. Don't we have a thread for Famitsu monthly charts?

crho used to post them, but he doesn't post here anymore. Maybe I'll post it when we get the hardware numbers.

YOY sales decreases on all platforms across the board. The gaming industry has peaked and is now in free fall in regards of sales.

X360 hardware was up, not that it's enough to have a noticeable impact on the overall market though.
