Forums - Nintendo - Ocarina of Time or A link to the past?

Do you have a classic controller? If you only have a GameCube controller pick Ocarina, it works great with it.

I don't know if SNES games work that well with GC controls, I downloaded Super Mario World and it just doesn't work with a GameCube controller, it just doesn't feel comfortable because of where the buttons are placed, I don't know if it's the same with A Link to the past though...

it isnt. super mario world feels akward because its a sidescrolling platformer. buttons need to be placed in a certain way because you need to have quick reaction time. with a game like zelda for the super, it works quite well. all you have to do is memorize which button does what because the game is focused mainly on exploration. any side scroller really is going to feel akward with the gamecube controller.

cool avatar by the way. tales of symphonia kicks ass. i work at gamestop and i try to get people to buy that game new so it can get to 1,000,000 copies. lol. i know, its pointless, i have only suckered about five people into doing it. nobody cares about that game.

LttP. And I'm not just saying that because I'm SNES biased.
Dificulty in OoT is lacking (except for the Water Temple). And I think you get more playtime out of LttP too.

i am as snes biased as they come, but i will tell you right now that ocarina of time is much much longer and there is a shit load more to do. why i like a link to the past better is because of the music, the monsters are cooler, more enemies on screen, better items, the puzzles more difficult and interesting, and, yes, i am a sucker for super nintendo.

i consider myself a pro at both games and my fastest time beating ocarina of time is 5 hours and 10 minutes (almost a world record) and that is without getting the lens of truth, the blue tunic, and beating the water temple with only finding 2 keys.

seriously though, i can 100% a link to the past in that time. you will get a lot more hours out of ocarina of time.

Well, you're the pro. I guess I just felt like that cause I've played LttP more. And I died a lot. Never once did I die in OoT.

i am the pro. you better make sure not to step on the wrong feet in these here forums. i used to die a lot in a link to the past too though until i started speed running it. staying alive in ocarina of time is hella easy though. its even worse in wind waker. but they upped the difficulty in twilight princess. the lava in windwaker took off one quarter heart, but in twilight princess it took off two. so thats a sign that they are getting better at raising the difficulty.

Dude, not even CLOSE. This is the world record right now (or at least a good time you should aim to beat): http://speeddemosarchive.com/ZeldaOcarinaOfTime.html

With that said, I can beat ALTTP 100% and finish it under 3 and a half hours. o_O

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

the times you pulled up are with glitches. the one i was going for was no bullshit, cartridge and n64. although i was working on this during the summer of 2006 (this is how i was passing my time before the wii came out) new times probably were made. the record i was trying to beat was done in 5 hours and 40 seconds by michael damiani (maybe some of you heard of him?). but yea, i gave up because i felt as if i did that run perfectly and i was still ten minutes off.

by the way, nice a link to the past time. that game kicks so much ass =]

It does rock! xD

I've seen TSA's speed run, and I used to talk to him before (I had a Zelda website, good times). For now, all I want to say about all this new "glitched run" is this: If the speedrun is on Speed Demos Archive, it's acceptable. As long as it's not tool-assisted I say...!

i looked more in depth at the website you gave me, and that 4:46:00 run is legit. that is a single segment run with no glitches. damn... now that is in-fucking-sane. i dont consider glitched runs. whats the point? i want to see from the moment they turn on their system, to the point the credits roll, how long it took to beat it.
