Forums - Microsoft - Does the 360 have any real exclusives?

Considering that the PS2 still had exclusives as late as 2007 (God of War 2, its own versions Singstar & Buzz, etc.), I think that taking release rate, and quality-over-time is really much more important than "count".

The X360 was hotter than the PS2 in 2007 because it was just that -- hot. Upcoming. The awesomeness was getting released, all fresh and new, and it was good stuff, to boot. If you want to map a console's performance, in terms of exclusivity, you have to consider time and growth/recession, plain and simple.

Otherwise, who cares about any console, but the PS2? It has a truckload of games rated well on metacritic... guess what those games would be rated now, if they came out on the 360 or PS3? Even the 2005 exclusives for the 360 are pathetic compared to just last year. Their metacritic rating is near meaningless -- heck many of the low scored ones were even criticized for looking too much like PS2 titles.

A simple snapshot tells no meaningful story, in this regard.

Do you have some way to measure whatever it is you're talking about?

The same argument could be made for early PS3 games, but I counted them too. If you want everything to be wrapped in a nice little bow of statistics, then that can't happen, unless someone actually knows how to do it and what to look for. This was merely to bust a myth and regardless of whether anyone thinks those games are good or deserving, the myth has been busted. I really don't care what else anyone takes from this thread. That was my only point.

Sure.  Its some serious effort though.

Take the exclusives and map them out, from their release, for 1 year past that release date.  Kinda long for a shelf-life, but this isn't some bean counting exercise, so a relaxed approach is fine, IMO.  Show the count as a graph.  We can see some cool trends in that (I dunno what they will look like).  Do the same thing for average score of those titles, and sales numbers... extend it out for 1 year past the release date, and make a graph.

That would be very interesting information, and frankly (I know you love your 360, Onyx =) ), the 360 will probably look hot in them, and I think the criticisms would be much lessened.

Or don't.  I almost feel like doing that myself, given the list you've put all the hard work into.  I'm really interested in followup info over time, personally.  I'm only whining because I want more from your cool compilation.  It doesn't really say anything of real interest yet... just my opinion.

Well you seem to have a good handle on it, so go ahead and graph it. As long as I don't get huge disputes from people with legitimate concerns, I'll put them in the OP. At the moment, my thread has done precisely what it was intended to. I know you've seen the comments before of a lack of exclusives, so you know it's basically been debunked at this point. I don't mind making this thread more useful though to more people. I'm always open to that.

Really?  Old 360 games are hard to find?  Notice that I have recently played King Kong(Yes I know, it was multiplat, but it still fits here).  Your argument does not stand.

Based on the fact that you played an old multiplatform game ?

So an exclusive 360 game would be harder to find than a bad multi platform game? LOL.  You guys are struggling.

The quality of the multiplatform game isn't the issue , the distribution of the multipaltform game is . It's all a matter of how heavily shipped and distributed the title was , whether it's exclusive or not is irrelevant.

@Kung Fu Magic  : I can't be bothered to discuss the issue further with you , your the only person who seems to have an issue with that point and that's really down to you not reading it properly.

The J man agreed with you that games are liked completely by opinion but where the J man has a problem is that you are insinuating that ps3 exclusives are more fun than 360 exclusives as fact.

Please tell the J man where he misread because as it stands he thinks your a rabid fanboy.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

I stopped reading when I read Sony exclusives arent considered because SAony also wants to make money from the 140million other users

So you stopped reading there, but what I really want to know is when you stopped thinking.

Hah! Awesome post.

Anyway, just wanted to say, this thread is great. Bookmarking it. I never knew how much of the 360 library was shared with the PC, since I don't have a great PC, so I sorta bought into the BS. I'll be sure to refer to this when debates turn in that direction...

I say put them on both because for different regions there are completely different circumstances.   For Europe Warhawk is a PSN only game and has been for a long time.  In the US though you can go into a shop and still buy it on the greatest hits line.  On the flip side in Europe you can walk into a store and buy Siren, but in the US Siren is a PSN only game.

But you still haven't addressed my main concern which is how do I tally the lists correctly and not double count those games? Let's say it looks like this(made up numbers)

Retail
PS3=29
360=58

Downloadable
PS3=42
360=42

However five games on the retail list are SOCOM, Warhawk, GT5 Prologue, Siren and Quest for Booty and those same five games are respresented on the other list so the PS3 is being represented incorrectly on one list, but you don't know which one of course. It'll be getting credit for 10 games when in actuality there are only 5.

---

Away from that these lists on a technicality are pretty much right, but when talking about exclusives nobody cares about a lot of listed games.  I mean who would say "Yeah the 360 is great, it's the only console with MotoGP 06" or "Yeah the PS3 is great it has Motorstorm".  There have been sequals since for both, and it isn't like it is a story based or even story heavy game or anything, when a new one is release the old may as well turn to dust.

Yeah but I decided my opinion would only degrade any integrity I was trying to give the list by adding it with the data. It's impossible to say what should and should not be dropped. Most people would go for the sequels but then there are others that do enjoy earlier games. I know people that still play Gran Turismo 3 and there has been 1 1/2 sequels since then.

Likewise there is a quality issue, the Wii probably has more exclusives than the 360 and PS3 combined, but who really cares when most of them no one has any interest in.  I see the problems with what to list or not though.

I addressed the quality issue in the only way I could without inserting my opinion, which was seperating it by a review source. I used Metacritic because it's popular here and because they have good search tools to work with.

As I said on a technicality when people talk of exclusives you are right, but what people say and what they mean are two different things, and this list doesn't really do much for the argument they mean.   No one cares about about Kengo: Legend of the 9 or Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire.

When people really talked about this I know exactly what they meant. They were talking about the ongoing pissing contest they love to participate in against rival platforms. Most of the people bitching about it didn't even have a gaming PC to play those games on so it was an irrelevant point for them to make. Most of the time it was mentioned it was done with an agenda.

Nice list anyway, but I think it fails to achieve what was intended.

360 has more total exclusives then PS3. FACT.
If you include 360/PC game the 360 library slaughters the PS3 one. FACT.

Yes the year head start is a factor but who cares. We are where we are today. No excuses.

Case closed.

Since when was this meant to be a PS3 vs Xbox 360 thread?

The whole point was disproving the idea that the Xbox 360 library cannot stand on its own.

Tease.

Thanks for all the effort Onyxmeth.

@Squilliam

But ps3 fanboys just like every fanboy like to change it so that it is. I for one can't wait to play the generation defining killzone 2.

Verrry nice thread.

Please keep it updated, I plan on using it as a troll-grenade and I need it up to date.

A very popular thing I hear is that once you take away all the shared games between 360 and PC, you're basically left with zilch. Nada. All the best are shared exclusives. Anything worthwhile to play on the 360 can be bought on the PC. I see a lot of misconception, especially from fans of a certain other console and from people saying PS3/PC is the way to go. So I took it up to see if this were true. Here are the findings, no spin required.

Rules: All games are exclusive to a single platform. No other port, even if on the console maker's own platforms or services will count. That means no PSP, PS2 or PC. The only exceptions made will be games in the arcade can still count towards a console, and games where the difference in experience makes them entirely different games that are connected in name only(i.e DS and Wireless ports).

Rules: All games have to have been released in either PAL or NTSC territories to count. No JPN exclusives or games that haven't been localized yet. No games close to release will count but can be added in once they do release to keep this current.

Rules: Any game that is exclusive but is announced to go to another platform will be highlighted in blue.

To exemplify whether the 360 does have an acceptable amount of "real" exclusives, it will be directly compared to it's nearest rival, the Playstation 3. Here goes. They will be seperated into sections based on their Metacritic rating for those that care about this stuff. After all, this is being done for you.
