Forums - Sony - Don't claim Killzone 2 will be sub-par without playing it.

If you scroll through my posting history, you'll see that I've probably hyped this game more than anybody else on this forum, yet the entire time all I've said was that this game plays great, looks really great, and has an addicting multiplayer experience. It's just fun. It won't reinvent the wheel. It won't become the best game ever. It won't do anything like that. But it'll be an awesome game.

And then people come in, bitching about overhype and whatnot, saying people will only be disappointed in the end. Yeah, you might be disappointed, only because you interpreted the excitement in an unrealistic way, most likely only so you could later use it as ammo against fans of a console you don't particularly like.

Still, when I tried to make a point about bullshots(those were from killzone 2) you just labeled me troll, because I didn't go with the hype. :)

I just don't get all of this hype around Killzone 2. LBP was going to be HUGE and then it wasn't that huge. Actually it was quite average. Now Killzone 2 IS HUGE, HUGE, HUGE. I don't say that it isn't huge, but if you expect that much from every game it might never be true. For example can you find any Diablo 3 will be HUGE or Starcraft 2 will be HUGE topics? Why not? Well, I am PC player mainly and I wait for those games, but I don't overhype them and I am very critical about them. I think them as a average games atm and will form my opinion when I try them out. Also why so hostile if someone doesn't agree with you and say that Killzone 2 might not be HUGE? (Because Killzone 2 is HUGE no matter what?.. Uh oh...)

Guys, come on.

Killzone 2 will be not only subpar, but downright terrible, if you don't get the chance to play it!  It will be awful to sit there, staring at your 360, wishing Killzone 2 would magically appear.

Give those poor guys a break -- let them whimper, if that's what they need to feel better.

more OT: Killzone 2 doesn't need to beat out CoD4 to be great -- you don't have to dethrone the King to be regal, when it comes to gaming.  I'd be a tad upset if I prefer Halo 3 over it, but if its even that good, that's okay too.  Those games (CoD4 at least) were stellar.  KZ2 doesn't have to make them look shoddy to be great -- it just has to compare favorably.

If we can't do such things, what else is there?

I think the problem with many people is that they interpret "I'm really excited about this game!" as "This game will change gaming forever and sell over 10 million!"

No, I think the problem is that far too many people try to quantify their excitement about a game and/or compare the game (favourably) to an already released game ... When people talk about how games were overhyped and people expected them to be 95%+ games that would sell more than 5 Million copies it is because there are/were several posters who were hyping the game and claiming that it was a 95%+ game that would sell more than 5 Million copies.

Certainly, there are a lot of posters with more moderate predictions about games but they're not the ones guilty of overhyping a game.

With the number of posters on this site, you think several posters that are probably just like crazzyman are enough to generalize the supposed hype for a game?

People can pick and choose who the crazy ones are, and it's usually fairly obvious.  Just don't take their opinion into account, which is what I do for a handful of people on this site.

Its not the number of posters who support a particular viewpoint, it is how vocal they tend to be ...

Funny, because you tried to counter the bullshots (which were actually captured directly from gameplay footage by posters on neogaf) with bullshots released directly by Guerrilla Games.  You even completely disregarded the 720p shots I posted (also captured straight from gameplay, once again by the fine fellows at neogaf), despite the fact that that's what the game would look like when running on your tv.

The reason I called you a troll is because you were only there to start trouble. You were completely disregarding the points made against you, continuing with your "Those are bullshots, the game dosn't look that good" line.

And I wouldn't call LBP average in anything other than sales.  And even then, it's the fast selling first party title Sony has yet released on the ps3.

Edit:  And note, if I had actually considered you any sort of serious troll, you've been given an official warning.  But you weren't given any such thing.

There are massive amounts of threads claiming that Killzone 2 will be the "greatest gamez evahz! omgwtfbbq!", but for every thread posted there is about 20 posts withing it claiming killzone will be a huge let down with nothing, but dissapoint and mediocre reviews. While people maybe a little over excited, some people are just down right cynical claiming a games going to be junk. Play the game before you judge. Many people got hyped for GTAIV to find out it was nothing special, many of those people who were claiming that one was going to be one of the greatest games (including me) will admit it was a huge let down.

Killzone though will absolutely not be a letdown at least for multiplayer. I was lucky enough to get into the beta, and just playing a mere beta I can say that the game, will not dissapoint no matter how hyped it is. The multiplayer is as solid as a 3 foot wall of solid adamantium. Ask any person who was in the beta they will tell you exactly what I'am saying right now. Quit the nesaying, if you don't wanna get hyped don't, but don't couph up garbage if you havn't played it.

How can anyone say anything about Killzone 2, unless they play it, see what Sony's doing to market it, check the reviews and get their ear to the ground?  The problem Killzone 2 is going through is that there is a wall of other games before it that were part of a ground campaign of: "Just wait for ______ to come out.  Once it is out, the sales will turn around, and the PS3 will be back on top."  KZ2 joins this pile of other games, and is another put up or shut u.  People even have tried to spin it to be better than Crysis graphically.    Throw in also the infamous 05 E3 trailer disaster to.

And stop being so blasted defensive over it.  Sheesh.  It is what it will be.  Hopefully it will be a great game on all levels and make Playstation 3 games.  And then maybe joint a quiet library of growing quality games that will give people reasons for owning a Playstation 3.  Let it join LBP and Uncharted in this regard, and Gran Turismo when it comes out.

Please accept whatever the game becomes.  If it isn't a Halo Killer, get used to it.  I have a feeling if it doesn't get honored as the top console FPS game, you are going to get angry and end up blaming all the "naysaying" for it not being honored as such.

Anyhow, I am curious who is saying the game is garbage.  People have said it isn't Crysis, and it may not outsell even Resistance 2.  Also, the art direction of the colors being bland might be an issue (along with there being a plot motivation for invading Helghast).  And most of these have been by me, just to question the game, due to the hype.  So, outside of myself, who has given the game props where I can (IT HAS BOTS!  The physics engine looks impressive. etc...) who are the large numbers who are saying it subpar?

Nope.

This is like the seventh time this has happened. The past two weeks, the board as been swamped with threads worshipping and overhyping Killzone 2. If it wasn't happening we wouldn't have this thread because there wouldn't be people who cared so much about early opinions on the game to make a thread telling people not to have said opinions. It wouldn't be that big of a deal.

The only difference this time is that the "it wasn't hyped!" phase came early and now we have people claiming that it's not being overhyped in a discussion sandwiched between threads hyping the game.

I think the lack of hype for PC games comes from the fact that both MS and many PC developers want to herd PC gammers onto the good ship 360. The developers want to kill piracy and MS wants to keep everyone locked in to directx while they still can.

Also you listed 2 Blizzard games. As everyone knows Blizzard games are impossible to hype as noone ever knows when they are actually comming out; only that they will be very, very late.
