Forums - Nintendo - RARE without Nintendo is not what it was to be....

Maybe they got rid of them cause one of the main things in rare's games were state of the art graphics & that wasn't really part of nintendo's strategy anymore?

Either way, i miss them too, they should come back :p

I doubt it -- the Gamecube had extremely competetive graphics.  But that may be a reason that MS wanted them ...

I remember calling Rare weakening when they left Nintendo back in what 2000? 2001? Anyways, I always thought there greatness was a combination of their own techinical talent (why their graphics rocked) and Nintendo's imput and Nintendo just has that knack for making games more fun (heck they even made Wii Music fun)

I think the same could be said for Retro. They would be nothing without Nintendo, look at what they were before...

Retro Studios was already making a number of promising-looking GameCube titles, some sort of ARPG, racing game, football (American) game.

Of course, they wouldn't have made the best game of all time, but it wouldn't have been ruinous

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I haven't played Perfect Dark Zero and Banjo 3, but I played the originals games in the N64. Is the quality for both franchises in balance?

Rare was headed downhill at the time of Starfox Adventures on the GC. While I personally LOVED the game, it took them forever, and their delays were getting worse, and continued to get worse when they went to MS.

Its the importance of listening to your team and what they want. If you have great talent, do everything possible to keep that talent aboard and make top notch games.

I've only played Rare games on 360, so I can't compare Nintendos Rare with M$s Rare. But I know that there is on every 360 a piece of software (Avatar) developed by Rare. I guess, there are not much developers which have achieved something like that. Correct me, if I'm wrong.

Didn't a bit of Rare's staff jump ship after it changed hands?

Factor 5 helped build the audio tools for GC and ported DivX to all last generation consoles. That's probably the closest example of another studio having their hands in everything.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

The only thing good that Rare did since they left Nintendo is Viva Pinata. Nuts and Bolts is the worst thing they ever dd by far.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

What a pity, Banjo was a great franchise on the N64, even bigger than Donkey Kong 64 (at least for me).

What about Perfect Dark Zero? I enjoyed so much the title on the N64. How is 360 version? Is it that good?

Well, it's certainly not as good as Perfect Dark was.  I don't think anyone will disagree with that.  And the achievements were just stupid (tiny payoffs for doing the entire campaign, etc.).

But some people think it's a terrible game, and others think it's prety good.  It's been a long time since I played it.
