Forums - Nintendo - RARE without Nintendo is not what it was to be....

I was very shocking when that year I read that RareWare was not going to be Nintendo part anymore to join Microsoft' side. I really thought that Microsoft was right in his decision and that had bought one of the best videogames developers.

However, as time passed, I realized that Rare wasn't what it use to be with Nintendo and that the quality of their games couldn't be compared with the SNES and N64 era. Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instict, Banjo-Kazzoie, GoldenEye007, Perfect Dark, Donkey kong 64, Get Force Gemini ... those games were real hits, some of them reached the mark of 8 or 9 Millions units sold.

In my opinion, current games from Rare are losing strengh, they lack of something: Viva Piñata, Perfect Dark Zero, Banjo 3, Kameo ... There is something that I miss on those games that I really enjoyed in the past old school Rare-Nintendo way.

Some of you think the same? Or do you think that I only miss my childhood ?

No, I tend to agree with you. Jet Force Gemini was still one of the most ridiculously fun third person shooters I ever played.

RARE seems to be missing something, in comparison to the old days.

Yeah. A bunch of major RARE devs and workers left right before the emdollarsign takeover, and they just aren't the AAA devs they  used to be :/

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I kind of hate Nintendo for forgetting about DKC, or DK adventure games, and because they have started to milk the franchise with games that dishonour it, I think people are starting to lose interest and soon enough the franchise will not be important anymore. Why is Nintendo trying to kill DK?

I pray to God every night that Rare will be able to return just to make another DK game.

You are correct. I don't think many will contend against the notion either.

During the N64 years, Rare made 2 AAA games every year. No company has managed to do that since including themselves.

While I agree that RARE at their peak were pretty much the only guys who could slug it out with Nintendo in terms of quality over time, I really wish you hadn't said that.

Aside from Viva Pinata, it seem like Rare hasn't been able to change with the times. I still enjoyed Kameo and Banjo Kazooie seems to be worth a purchase. The world just isn't the same. The stuff that made Rare awesome back in the SNES/N64 days just wouldn't fly anymore.

Killer Instinct was my favorite fighting game back when, but that was mainly because of the graphics. Same for the Donkey Kong Country series. Rare used to make Nintendo's consoles sing (but Conker TOTALLY ruled!). I don't think Rare lost it's touch (even if they DID lose a lot of their talented members). I think everyone else just got better.

It's not because they left Nintendo, it's because the talent within Rare that made Rare what it was has left, like how the people who headlined Goldeneye went on to found Free Radical, others too have left to rob Rare of it's greatness

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Their newer games arent as good as the older titles, but they arent bad games.....I enjoyed Perfect Dark Zero actually.

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

Said what?  That for 5 years straight Rare managed to release 2 AAA quality titles each year and no one has been capable of that mark since?
