Forums - Gaming Discussion - FPS : better on a PC or console ?

I cut my eye teeth on a PC FPS the name of which is lost to the ages. It was a pretty crappy DOOM rip-off.

Dual analog vs. KBAM isn't really an argument, but throw in the Wiimote's IR functions and suddenly we have a party.

All told I prefer the console experience, if only for splitscreen multiplayer.

I think the best combo would be mouse/nunchuk but you'd have to sacrifice a few keys but I'd love to try Left 4 Dead with motion (melee) and Wii zapper.

IMO the only game where dual analog is probably the best control scheme is Geometry Wars. I just don't find dual analog intuitive at all. The tank analogy is a good one.

A few? You'd be sacraficing the whole left half of the keyboard, lol.

PC doesn't offer just better controls and graphics - PC gives you the means to test your skills without limiting you. What the consoles' gamepads do is limit everyone's skills/accuracy and then adding auto-aiming to give you the impression that you're doing it... but really you're not giving much input, and you're not able to show your skills at a higher level.

I always turn off auto-aim and I can beat ANY FPS on the hardet difficulty setting

Left 4 Dead is a good example. I heard that the X360 version at highest difficulty is comparable to the easiest setting of the PC version lol. How lame is that.

Source ? Oh wait that's probably only a fairy tale....

PC also gives you another big thing: MODS. MODS, MODS, MODS and more MODS!! They're awesome.

I was thinking more of a third party PC nunchuk with more than 2 buttons. It still wouldn't fit all the keys on but it would obviously have more than 2. A friend of mine uses 360 pad in one hand and mouse in the other for TF2. The Spy is practically impossible to play but it works fine for most other classes.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

There have been some remarquable FPS on consoles due to specifically twicked gameplay, vehicles, and/or splitscreen coop :

N64 Goldeneye
The Halo series
Gears of War (though this one is not quite an FPS [tomatoes/tomatoes])
Perhaps Killzone 2 (?)

Anyway FPS is typically a PC genre. Aside a few exceptions you'll want to play them with the keyboard and the mouse lying in front of you.

God i hate fanboys, almost as much as they hate facts

I don't see the benefit of doing that. Especially since my primary class is Sniper where you strafe back and forth a lot. I don't think I could possibly do that with an analog stick anywhere near as well as I could on a keyboard.

Console, as it means I can move in more than 4 directions. Aiming is better too.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL @ Halo better on PC

Give me co-op, then we can talk again.

I played doom 1 co-op on a 14.4k modem a long time ago, it's nothing new. I'll tell you something about halo split-screen co-op though, it was broken, you can take turns beating the game in co-op mode, it was retarded.

edit: oh and remember the good old days when you can play Halo multi-player cross platform? xbox people got destroyed, that should make it clear enough.

Either way is fine with me. I can say their were times were i wish i had a mouse, or controller, or even wii mote to pull off a shot..but overall their all the same to me...just got to get skilled enough to use them all.

I've actually found playing FPS on consoles fun, but PC remains the superior platform for FPS (and RTS too) IMHO.

My main reason for saying that would be the accuracy improvement with K&M is simply very evident, and unless you have a very underpowered PC you're going to get better graphics into the bargain.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
