Forums - PC - What are your top 3 online multiplayer games on the PC?

What I wanna know is, what are your 3 (or 4 or 5, whatever) favorite games regarding the online multiplayer component?
(so if you think Medieval 2: Total War has an awesome single player campaign but don't put quality hours playing it online you shouldn't name this game)

For this question, please exclude MMORPGs (because they are fundamentally so different).

Mine are:

1. Age of Empires II
2. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
3. Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

(but I need ideas for more multiplayers, thus this little survey)

Around the Network

Quake(TF Mod)
Tribes
UT2003
Quake 2(Battle of the Sexes Mod)

nice that you like QW... just bought it for £3 :p

err I haven't played PC online for a while...so...

CS
Mechwarrior 4
UT2003
CS Source

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

CS: Source
CoD4
TF2

Fav PC game:
Oblivion

Right now the only one I'm playing is Team Fortress 2.

Historically I have to say QuakeWorld and Quake 3.

Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat: Source recently, I play COD4 sometimes but I usually play only when I want to use modern day weapons :P

"historically" it's Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror, BF 2142 (but TF2 will pass BF 2142's hours soon) and Frag.Ops/TO:Crossfire for UT2004, but I don't play any of them anymore

I'd love to play World in Conflict more than I do, but I don't like the idea of playing in foreign servers so I rarely play it

with friends Left 4 Dead is awesome, but my experience wtih random people has been kinda annoying and I haven't gathered friends for a while now, so it's also another game I don't play much

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Not really in any particular order and it could change as I remember other games I've played.

Team Fortress 2 (and perhaps one or two source mods)

Counter-Strike

Battlefield 2 (though that's been going downhill for a while now)

Age of Empires 2 (back in the day that was the shit)

The one that I used to play the most was definitely Counter-Strike

“When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life." - author unknown

I've never gotten into very many multiplayer games but I suppose that's either because of a boring idea or boring execution. That said, I do have a few favourites.

  1. Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars - The sequel to one of the my favourite online games ever and it just manages to surpass it, though only by a very small margin. And don't you dare mention Battlefield in the same sentence; that just means you've never actually played the game. Oh, and the demo of the PS3 version was horrible but the PC version is pure awesomeness.
  2. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - I had a hard time deciding which one was better... But I guess ETQW is clearly better at best.
  3. It's pretty hard to put anything here and actually I'd rather not. But then I wouldn't answer the question. Diablo II: Lord of Destruction was pretty entertaining until I got bored by the repetitive gameplay. The first Call of Duty wasn't bad but it's a bit too simple to my taste. I think I'll just go for... Well, actually there are probably many better games but I won't speak about games I've never played online. Besides, they might not actually be that much better. For now, Return to Castle Wolfenstein will get my vote.

Awesome, you squeezed in 3 x Wolfenstein!
(No. 1 counts because of Splash Damage and the heritage that goes back to No. 2)

Wolfenstein is my favorite shooter franchise.

Are you excited about the next Wolfenstein yet? I hope it'll get a nice multiplayer.
