Forums - Sony - How important is Killzone 2 to the PS3?

Its important because the shooter genre is important, does that make sense?

The PS3 hasn't had a AAA exclusive shooter franchise, so this does fill a hole in the shooter genre as the better games are far more valuable in terms of sales and mindshare as the smaller games.

Now all we need is a game that mirrors Gears thats all ps3 is missing after KZ2 launches

I think the reason Sony hasn't filled those holes is because they have a similiar mentality to that. You don't need to "mirror" Gears. You need to find something that attracts the audience but isn't a copycat. Copycats are always referred to as "the poor man's version".

Will it be a system seller? will it barely sell any PS3's? is it the must have game for all PS3 owners? will it flop? will it live up to the hype it has? Is Killzone 2 the PS3's game compared to Halo being the Xbox 360's game?

How important is Killzone 2 to the PS3?

well its not a system seller thats for sure, system sellers are very few and far between.

its a must have game for fps fans, il have it day 1.

regarding its importance is say yes, if its critically well recieved and sells decent, ps3 gamers are off to a good start for 2009. my year personally started with motorstorm 2 that i got after xmas, ive pre ordered socom thats out soon, and after that il have killzone 2.

so hopefully killzone 2 can mark the start of a great gaming year for ps3 fans.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

The game will probably sell pretty well but I don't think its that important to the PS3. The PS3 might not have a lot of huge software titles for 2009 but there will be many more important title for them in the future. Compared to Grand Turismo 5, this game is not important. In my opinion, I wouldn't have high hopes for the game after its been released. I mean Killzone 1 sold 1 million copies worldwide and lifetime sales on a userbase of 100 million. Killzone 2 will probably sell about 750 or 850k first week worldwide on a userbase of about 17 million. After a couple of weeks, it will probably have legs but not for long. I think that we shouldn't just put our focus on one game that might sell well. Instead, we should concentrate on sony's strong exclusive franchises they have to offer in 2009.

I don't know bro, I have a feeling Sony isn't going to mess up on this one. From all the hype, they have more fuel backing this title than any other title they've put out this whole gen to date. This could finally be the game that Sony realizes is ready to compete with the big dogs!! Next up: Gran Turismo 5 - talk about fuel behind a title!!!

They decided to move Killzone 2 out of the holidays to give Resistance 2 the room to outsell Gears 2. Even before it moved, Scott Steinberg(VP of marketing) associated Resistance 2 with being their top tier shooter of the year, even going so far as to mention Killzone 2 as another great game. If they weren't willing to put the muscle behind the game they were going "toe-to-toe" against Gears 2 with, why would they put it behind this other shooter?

We're coming up on a month before release. I don't see any advertising yet. If there isn't any real push in the next 10-14 days, I'm calling this another bust for Sony marketing.

Well all the wii people i know with a ps3 that i have showed this game to are getting it. plus this game is the reason why my cousin is not going to wait for a cheaper ps3

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Honestly, I don't think this game is that important. The PS3 has plenty of good shooters already; another one, even of very high quality, probably isn't going to do much to move hardware. I have trouble seeing someone saying, "I'm not interested in Resistance 1 + 2, Call of Duty 4 or World at War, and so on... but now that Killzone is out, I have to get a PS3!" A Feburary release likely isn't conducive to high hardware sales either.

Gran Turismo is overwhelmingly the biggest exclusive game in Sony's arsenal at the moment. If you want to talk about a game that is important to the system, focus on that one.

I agree, Sony said they were going to step it up big time with the marketing for Killzone 2, so I'd really like to see what they mean by "big time", we should start seeing some adds shortly if not like you said it'll be a bust for Sonys marketing.

YAhh every one knows GT is basicly PSs life.

But for all the shooters on 360 even quality like Bioshock, there is a huge defferance between all of them and Halo.  Some simply rise above the rest (GT).  K2 will smash R and R2 sales.  As great as COD4 was it was multi, you cant get K2 anywhere but the PS3.

A copy cat Crash Team Racing maybe to Mario Kart but I loved it.  CTR was even a supperior game in my opinion.  I wish Sony would go back to copying things that work.  While the otherside will complain it doesn't matter to me.  As long as the game isnt rushed and is quality im all for copying great ideas from the other console companies.  I'd be more upset if sony wasnt because then there not trying hard enough.

KZ2 is not a copy of Halo.  Other than the fact it could be Sony FPS for the ps3 like Halo is for the 360.  I do not think KZ2 will move systems directly but will help when someone is deciding between the 360 and ps3 and look at the library

How is it you can't tell I'm talking about it in a sales perspective? Nothing you said has anything to do with what I'm saying. You're talking about liking copycat games. Good for you. Are copying ideas and painting them a different color a good way to see success? Not usually.

Also I never said KZ2 is a copy of Halo. Seriously are you sure you meant to quote me, because it sounds like you're having a conversation with someone else's quote.
