Forums - General - Japan loves Obama

The most powerful and well known man in the world isn't allowed to be well liked. He should be feared and hated. That's how Bush did it, that's how the medieval Europeans did it, and it's worked out pretty well so far.

Oh yeah, Iron Man reference. I'm on a roll today!

We'll all hate him in a year, I'm sure. And the cycle will continue.

I believe it's a lot less than that, as many Americans didn't vote either way.

Anyway, we're the exception.  Globally it's Obamamania.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

McCain got 47% of the vote, FYI. Obama had ~52%

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

You misunderstand.  If 43% (or 47%) of voters voted for McCain, and 61.7% of eligible Americans actually voted, then only 26.5-29% of Americans voted for McCain (discounting people who might have wanted to but couldn't either way).

Not to mention that the poor are far less reliable voters than richer people. If everyone in the country voted, Democrats would have a built-in electoral advantage.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Wow, thats pretty cool.
