Forums - Nintendo - Wii losing its FPS fans?

I agree about fps is being squeezed into mediocrity. Its 3rd person shooters that are the latest thing, Dead Space, Gears, GTA, etc but both are kinda draining inspiration fast. No one jumped on Mirrors Edge probably bcoz its still the "same" formula.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

There's lots of FPS fans with Wiis. Half of them own other systems though and aren't about to buy a watered down version of a game (CoDWaW) if they can have a fuller version on their other system (looks prettier too).

However Wii controls are better. If someone made a full out AAA FPS exclusive for Wii (or even with the exact same content as HD) with great fully fleshed out online and good use of WiiMotion Plus and WiiSpeak you'll see some impressive sales.

Now The Conduit is doing all that except it's looking pretty generic at this point and I don't think it's going to compete with FPSs on HD consoles for multi-system owners. But it should do very well with the FPS starved Wii only owners.

Honestly, multiplatform fps are never going to do well on the wii. The games are too hevaily graphic centric for people to choose that console. Exclusives should do fine though.

COD3 had the help of being a launch title.

Troll thread. I refuse to believe anyone is this short sighted.

Could you please stop saying this? If someone says something silly, he's a troll? Frybread is definitely a pro-Wii person (check his posts), and he clearly just hadn't checked the facts. That happens, failing is human (which is part of the reason I never fail).

The Wii never was a FPS selling console.

The Wii isn't a FPS selling console

The Wii will never be a FPS selling console.

(just a grammar question, is it an FPS selling console? Normally, it's only a when there's a vowel (again, how do I spell this?) in the following word. Is there an exception with alitterations (I'm not even sure this is the correct word... Thanks for any reply, on my wall or PM is fine if you don't want to reply here).

There aren't many genres in which the Wii will be a lot smaller than the Ps3 and X360 (alone, not combined), but shooters are one of the few.

The only other I can think of now is sandbox games...

World at War is on track to sell over a million, easily. Just compare the weekly sales, and keep in mind that World at War hasn't even been out for 3 months. Compare that chart and tell me that the Wii has lost FPS fans!

You'd be high.

A post so nice let's see it thrice.

I wonder how the sales compare to something good.

By this I mean -- I bought MOH2 rather than COD3 on the Wii because the former is much better.

I will get COD-W@W eventually.

The Conduit Will save the Wii!

Your talking about Silver Bullets - I'm not sure if one exists... strike that thought... an applicable to common use one.

@fry - are you really comparing LTD sales for COD3 to current sales of COD5? The game has only been out about 3 months now, and JUST charted on the top 10 Wii games. Its building up steam late. Factor that with supply issues in December for the Wii version, and I think you'll find COD5 doing well.

Besides, to answer your question - you HAVE seen the amount of hype for the Conduit, right?

C'mon man, you're not even trying.

Internet hype means nothing. Just look at all the hyped PS3 games.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)

Wii: 10^8

but most of the hyped PS3 games do pretty well, sans for Lair, which was more due to sucky game overall.
