the 2012 armageddon being real

lol, wut?..

The world apparently ending in December 2012,  I think it's a load of crap tho

Lol, oh yeah i remember that article. O_O

The world has ended at least 100 times already according to old and new predictions.

Anyway, the best case scenario would be that Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony would make consoles for casual players and devs would be forced to make casual games only. Well, the latter is happening kind of already. :)

Sony leaving the industry would have a very real chance of causing a third party crash. That's about as bad as I can see things getting.

I agree. The reprecussions would be drastic is Sony left the industry.

I don't think many people realize exactly how badly it would hurt the 360 if this happened. The 360 and PS3 rely on each other.

The Wii wouldn't feel it as much because smaller developers are already flocking to it and a couple of larger ones are already on board, but even there the effects would be evident.

Gannandorf and the Reapers team up to deliver a one-two punch to Sony, before turning on their masters.

Despite a valiant defense from Shepard and Link, gaming would fall.

The Wii reigns supreme and gamers are forced to suffer the "lost decade" where they are subjected to years and years of the same regurgitated Nintendo franchises and mass piles of shovel ware.

Agreed. The 360 titles would lose half of the future releases (i.e. ones not in development) because it becomes MUCH riskier to only have sales from 360. Call of Duty and Madden would be unaffected but smaller games would go away.

Not really... Even if they killed SCE, third parties would still be able to release software for the PS2/3/P platforms. It would be a difficult adjustment but the market would move on.

Tease.

Eeehhhh, I dunno, especially with the PS2 thing. Once platforms are abandoned, even prematurely, doesn't software tend to stop being released, too? Or even stop being bought in general?

Aren't new buyers hella important?

That wouldn't happen. It would like releasing a brand new Xbox or Gamecube game even though both consoles are discontinued. Yeah, the userbase is higher than the PS3, but it would still be stupid.
