Forums - Nintendo - Dev review: Call of Duty: World at War

Was this from another article, or did you write it yourself, bardicverse?

If the latter, I think Nintendo just did it to save the extra cost of the audio hardware. Even the PS2 could only do pro logic when it game to in-game audio (5.1 for DVD playback). And since their goal with the Wii was keeping costs down, I understand that.

I wrote it myself. I know, and its probalby more so just recycled parts from the gamecube. Use the same sound setup, since theres a bulk of them. Its just hard to create fake surround sound and make it sound even at DVDquality. It works, but if they do it again with their next console, someone is getting kicked in the sack. Dolby Pro Logic II needs to fade away

No, it doesn't. You forget most people don't care about true surround sound, since most people aren't audiophiles.

They've already confirmed their next console will be HD so it wouldn't make much sense to keep the audio so limited.

DVD quality sound isn't specific to the channel mix but rather the bit depth and sample rate which can be up to 24 bits and 192 kHz which the Wii can do because the format is DVD (only in mono or stereo at those rates).

I wasn't responding to what Nintendo would do. I was responding to his claim the format needs to go.

Great postmortem by the author. I agree the most with the bad choice on Ninty's part w/ Dolby Pro Logic II.

Good review, that being said, don't make the same mistake I did which was picking this up after having played the PC version, I realize the comparison isn't fair but Wii atm doesn't have a lot of FPS to go with, I'm hoping The Conduit and MW2 will be better since the Dev cost will probaly start to get higher for Wii titles. This game wasn't too bad considering the timing and budget wasn't exactly on par with the other versions. If you only own the Wii, then it should be quiet enjoyble and I do recommend this for Wii-only owners, otherwise, don't get this, as you will end up in horror from a consumer's point of view.

The campaign is great, and the flame throwers are tons of fun. Top notch voice acting, also.

Good review! Anybody who likes FPS games should give this a try. As with the other two FPS games mentioned in your review, these controls once again prove that FPS is best done on the Wii.

dont play the HD version if you only have a Wii. Dont! in fact dont even read any articles about Cod:WAW on PS360.

now with this being said, I played Cod:WaW on Wii its a good FPS game for Wii.

honestly i prefer the HD version . Zombie Horde!!!

Wii version doesn't have Nazi zombies? If this is true, then HD versions > Wii version.

Using DPLII is like making a Blu Ray player with a VCR built into it. Its archaic, and 5.1 processing is dirt cheap now (since they're already up to 7.1 and beyond) Nintendo just revamped several GC parts when designing the Wii, which is part of why they got away with such low costs - used old stock parts. It really is my only gripe about the Wii. HD would have been nice too, just to not hear the 3 years of dumb posts on the forum

When did I argue about the tech? Did you actually look at my comment?
