Maybe someone can clarify this long time 'rumor' for me..is it true sony counted consoles that were fixed as consoles sold?

Anyway, I think its becoming close to being an inevitability that Wii will eventaully become the highest selling console ever. And to all ppl believing that once the Wii's successor comes out the Wii will automatically just stop selling...But on the other hand continue to believe the PS2 will continue selling for another 2 yrs even though its successor has already been out 2 yrs, gimme a break..You cannot have it both ways. Every marketleading console has continued selling well into the next gen.

Shipped I think so , Fixed ? I don't .

Techinically fixed consoles would be shipped.

What sony would count used to be the number of PS3's they've made.  Rather then sold.

So replacements would of counted.  Not fixed though.

Shipped to retailer , assuming you use common sense.

Which sony didn't.

Until last year Sony's "shipped" numbers meant "Shipped from our factories to our warehouses." or somehing similar.

Besides... in the world of PR common sense does not apply.

"and besides who said that Nintendo wouldnt release another console by then or if they dont who said that the wii wont die away in the next few years..."
See, people were saying the Wii was a fad and it would only last something like a year to two years or something, and that has been proven false.

Anyways, I was always under the impression that the PS2 had sold 150 million, but I guess my impression was wrong. Pretty nice prediction although if the Wii2/WiiHD comes out, that could start stealing sales.

1. Nintendo will release another console by 2011, let alone 2014. This will lower wii sales

2. I expect demand to slow down. I think worldwide sales 2009 will be lower than 2008. 2010 even less, etc. Basically I'm guessing 2008 was the peak.

3. Recession.

Conclusion: I don't believe the wii will outsell the PS2. I think it could do PS1 type numbers, but not PS2.

So why would any of this outside of recession effect the Wii more then the PS2.

As for the recession... why would this recession act diffeerently then all others. (Pro Tip: Enterntainment is hardly ever effected by recessions, espiecially cheap entertainment, people need more distractions from their crapply lives rather then less.)

What was that Pro tip thing from anyway?  I want to say a crappy videogame magazine or book.

Edit: Gamepro.  It was Gamepro that had the Protip.

200 million at least, just like John Lucas, that's what I'm going with.
