Wii to become most successful console ever

The Nintendo Wii could be on its way to replacing the PlayStation 2 as the most successful console of all time, according to analyst firm Venture Beat.

The console is predicted to have sold 154 million units globally by 2014, reports DigitalSpy, which would put it ahead of the 140 million units that the now-fading PlayStation 2 has managed.

According to Venture Beat the Wii is 10 per cent ahead of the PS2 in comparative lifetime terms, having sold 17.5 million units in its first 26 months on sale in the US, compared to 15.9 million units for Sony's console.

Meanwhile it was also noted that the PlayStation 3 is having a similar impact to the lacklustre performance of Nintendo's previous console attempt, the GameCube, having sold 6.79 million units in the past 26 months - although the company does expect Sony's flagship console to have a much stronger long term appeal.

its at 120 mil or so

FFXIII Versus will have higher Metacritic scores than FFXIII after the first month.... Bet going on with perpride - loser changes sig for a month

KH3 will be PS3 EXCLUSIVE - willing to bet removal from vgchartz for a month

and besides who said that Nintendo wouldnt release another console by then or if they dont who said that the wii wont die away in the next few years...

GT5 will sell 3.2million + first week on ps3 (made 06 March 2010)

FFXIII Versus will have higher Metacritic scores than FFXIII after the first month.... Bet going on with perpride - loser changes sig for a month

KH3 will be PS3 EXCLUSIVE - willing to bet removal from vgchartz for a month

Nintendo won't release a console until Microsoft or Sony. They usually launch their console last.

well considering sony has a "10 year plan" even if ps3 only last for 7 years instead which i am positive it will since ps1 and ps2 lasted longer than that and if that were to happen it would mean wii would be out for 7-8 years minimum which is completely unlikely...no way can it last that long without being a new console being released IMO...

 

and i can guarantee that wii will NOT pass 150 mil....quote me on that in a few years time (20111-2012??) when wii 2 is released and wii is discontinued

Here's a link according to which at the end of March 2007 the PS2 had already shipped 117.89. Fast forward almost 2 years and 140 million shipped is not much of an exaggeration. If it hasn't shipped 140 million already it is close.

Unless ... WiiHD is released in a year or two (believe in Pachter!), allowing Nintendo to announce Wii sales numbers + WiiHD sales numbers as a combined figure for a single product line (like the GameBoy series, DS series, etc.).

So yes, the PS2 has infact already shipped over 140 million.

On to some other claims of yours

Yes, the Wii2 will be out before 2014, that is fairly obvious. But the Wii will continue to sell even after the Wii2 is released, just as happened to the PS1 and PS2.
Why would the Wii die away? It is starting to get all the big 3rd party games on it, Wiimotion+ will garner the Wii even more sales and support.

The Wii is trending considerably above the PS2
The PS2 had I believe had 2 price cuts by the same point in its life, the Wii has had 0
The DS bucked the trend of having its highest hardware sales in its 3rd year, as its 4th year is higher. I believe the Wii will do the same.

Anyway, welcome to the site, and keep making predictions. It is the best way to learn :)
