Forums - Sony - If Microsoft pay, we'll write another "Sony is Doomed" article

Who is idiotic enough to take anything on the internet at face value 100% of the time? LOL

i didn't say ''anything''. I said some specific articles like the one who appeared on vgchartz 2 days ago about horrible and miserable Sony commercials about playstation products. Sony actually have some very good PS1 and PSP commercials, but you didn't see that.

How sad.

LOL, what gives you that idea?

Having read it, I can tell you it doesn't make much difference. The article is just an enumeration of recent articles which are at least somewhat negative towards Sony's position, plus a few contradictory implications on whether Microsoft is behind it or not.

I find it interesting that the article referred to in this paragraph:

I'm not quite sure what their game is. It'd be wrong to presume that they have some kind of hidden agenda, or are paid by Microsoft (as my title might suggest), but another of THEIR ARTICLES does take a damning view of Sony, painting them as the fool, despite their sourced book featuring no such accusation. (emphasis ADDED)

is really a book review

Back to reality -- Sony is not faring as well as it would like or as well as expected this generation.

The complexity of the console has resulted in a higher price point than many are willing to pay. But such a price point was originally necessary to prevent the company from completely losing its shirt on the console. And now it is necessary because the company -- as a whole -- seemingly cannot afford to sell the console as a substantial loss again (which would happen if the price were dropped to increase the console's attractiveness/competitiveness))

In reality, it is a testament to the value and strength of the PS3 that it has sold as well as it has. Previous consoles with such a pricepoint (over $500) have for all intents and purposes tanked. Remember the Neo Geo? Remember the 3DO?

The Holiday Season decrease year-to-year for the PS3 was bad -- but as noted herein some of it can be explained. What was much worse for the company -- and the reason the PS3 price can't be dropped right now -- is the sales of the high-end electronics where the corporation makes big profits. That is the real "doomsday" problem for Sony -- and potentially for the PS3 (because it is the reason the price cannot be lowered).

Ok, let's deal with reality here.

News sources live and die by the attention they are paid. They want readers and viewers, so that they can make money off of advertising. In order to do this, they have to be on the story of the day, and even be ahead of it, on that story before anything else. In this, if there is a theming or coloring of the information to set up a great payday down the line, it is beneficial to them. And in this, this is where the payout for "Sony is doomed":
1. By saying it now, and if it happens, you look like you are ahead of the curve. Of course, when writing about "Sony is doomed", you write it usually couched and hedged so you can backtrack later.
2. Also the "Sony is doomed angle" provides fodder if Sony does make a comeback. You then prime the pump for a great return to greatness article.

So, it is the interest of the media to say "Sony is doomed". It generates attention, like is seen here. It gives the information a story, and draws attention to everyone. It also is a neat dig at Microsoft. You can play Microsoft up as the guys who twirl their moustaches, and put the girl in distress on the train track. This talk reminds me a bit of how you had the Fox News set blaming the Hillary Clinton camp for leaking news against Obama that was supposed to be bad. You get to set up Hillary as the evil-doer again.

What exactly is the point of this thread?

Microsoft paying people to write ''Sony is doomed'' articles.

Yeah, we know... just like Apple is paying people to write "Vista Sucks Articles"... right??

I agree US media propaganda has been getting out of hand for quite a while and with regard to the 20% YOY sales drop for November it's no different.

Even with a minimal amount of research any media could have figured out the PS3 the year before just had a new model introduced together with a price cut. For the whole of 2008 the PS3 didn't have an actual price cut on entry pricing, of course including the holiday season.

Yet year over year sales were up 38-40% for the US for the whole year in total. So IMO the 1/5 drop for just November is not enough to turn into a blind doomsayer.

Small problems with your logic of "US Media Propanganda"

- The media is loving the Wii and its from the same country as the PS3.

- The media loved the PS2 way more then the xbox

- Accepting that there's actually some sort of conspiracy theory of journalist having an agenda against the PS3

@ snake - that would explain his closing remark

"I'm not implying that Microsoft is paying publications to diss their competitor, but it's obvious that they're benefiting in the internet battle."

Misleading title, perhaps the thread should be closed

i named the theard by the name of the article. how would you name the theard?

How about, "Journalist Doesn't Understand the Meaning of 'Imply'"

You could even work in the idea that maybe journalists like to write sensationalist articles with sensationalist headlines to rope in readers (i.e. "Sony is doomed" or "Microsoft Pays Off Journalists").  Just because some are guilty doesn't make it "noble" or give the journalist "integrity" by using the same tricks for a counter argument.  It just proves they're as bad as the rest and should be trusted just as little, if not less.

In other words, this article is complete rubbish.
