DQ swords has sold better because its a DQ, in Japan every DQ sells well even a spin-0ff and why would jrpg go to the wii when the only ones selling well is DQ swords, ToS, and Pokemon.(WKC outsold Pokemon and ToS in japan)"

So if a DQ spin off can beat them all why would a main FF game be able to?

the pokemon game isn't even an RPG, its a stadium game where you can't even walk or search or even travel.
ToS2 is a spin-off of a popular game, not a sequel.

"Imagine this....

FINAL FANTASY XIV COMING TO WII,DS,AND PSP!!!!

nope........doesn't sound right, and it never will! Wii, DS, and PSP get a lot of RPGs....fine, thats good. Yet these RPGs are no where near on the same standard we put upon certain RPGs such as FF. I like handheld RPGs but I would NEVER want all RPGs to be on handhelds. Give me the FFs of the world anyday.

And like I said, this is not about the Wii so why must Wii Heads continuously bring up that system? This is not about the handheld market either. We are talking HD console JRPGs."

apart from your HD shit, why shouldn't the wii be mentioned? It makes more profit.

"What about the Wii?

Because regardless of the Wii having a wider userbase it offers nothing for the Type of RPGs we are talking about. That system cannot give me great graphics, physics, immersion, or controls schemes that the HD console's can.

I hate waggle control for anything other then fitness games. The Wii's graphics are outdated and if I wanted to play JRPGs with that level graphics I would just go back to PS2, those were better anyway. Wii offers nothing in the respect of dynamic physics to make games more real OR immersive. The Wii also uses an outdated format just like the 360 meaning shorter RPGs(which is an oxymoron of what JRPGs are suppose to be. And please don't say multiple discs because a multiple bluray disc game trumps a multiple dvd disc game anyday).

I'm going to use this thread to reply to, because you were originally replying to me about mentioning the Wii, DS and PSP.

It's contradictory for you to start a thread showing that RPGs cannot be sustained alone on the 360, show that they cannot be sustained alone on the PS3, and then throw a shit fit when people mention that there are three platforms that CAN sell RPGs, only for you to change your argument to fit that certain RPGs need to be HD so they can fulfill your personal needs. So which is it? Is this a sales thread or a fanboy thread?

I made a good point that even multiplats may not be able to be successful. You come back with there being some need for RPGs to have HD graphics, which really has nothing to do with sales. If RPGs cannot sell well on HD consoles then that's not where they need to be. I find it hypocritical that you would bring up a ridiculous argument about those needs when you're sporting a Cloud Strife avatar. Also weren't you one of the ones bitching about Microsoft "stealing" FF XIII last Summer?

This is all very obvious what this is. This is you missing the RPGs the 360 is getting, and hoping for some reassurance that others feel PS3 should be getting them. You don't even have the ability to stick with your own topic. Your ability to generate any rational thinking in regards to sales is piss poor.

Unless you expect 360 games to have 50% attach rate, they won't be selling 500k in Japan. WKC will not outsell LO, I'm pretty sure of it.

Would you like to make a wager on that? I think that WKC will outsell LO 3months after its WorldWide release. Winner gets Sig and avatar control (Nothing ban-able)?

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

now you're just talking PR bull.

Since when EVER have you needed physics in a JRPG?

Since when have controls been a concern in JRPGs? Even then the Wii has 3 control schemes so you lose on that.

Graphics mean shit. Golden sun is the best RPG i have ever played, yet its on the GBA. Don't try calling it nostalgia, i only got it recently.

and wii doesn't need multiple discs because it doesn't need the same amount of space for PS360 games to save HD textures.

You've pretty much nailed what this guy is saying, and alot of it is unrealistic fanboy junk.

The one thing I will say is that I think there is no doubt a market for HD RPG's, albeit not like the DS or Wii or PSP. The largest global RPG franchise has it's next iteration coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360, we know it'll sell big. That will open up a market for these RPG's, no one's going to ignore the fact it's coming.

But the market it opens isn't going to lead to the flood of RPG's like DS or PS2 see, I'm thinking more just 1 or 2 'big' releases other then final fantasy every year on PS360. I think that's a model which can prove profitable and sustain itself.

IT'll be interesting to see how things pan out 0_o. I'm pretty bored of the DS RPG's now, although most don't seem to come to Europe anyway.

I've no doubt in my mind the HD consoles can create an RPG experience which is 'more' then we've played on previous consoles or is possible on the Wii. I guess it depends on what you want but for me it's just a change on the battle system formula, and I think the extra power behind the console could lead to a revolutionary RPG battle system. I have no idea in my head how it'd work or whatever but I can sort of see it :/.

I just think the RPG's we'll see on Wii are going to be the exact same that we saw on the PS2 but... erm, just the same really. Sure some will be great games but I'm skeptical if they'll honestly push things forward in anyway different to a good PS2 RPG.

I think that JRPG's on the Wii is a great thing. However those that dont have Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest or even Square dont really have a great chance of being a success. Its almost worth risking the High Dev costs of an HD console to actually go that way.

Dont get me wrong the JRPG catolouge that the Wii is offering for 2009+ looks wonderful but I cant help but feel that the PS3 fanbase is getting shafted for no reason at all for the 360 instead.

Someone already stated that its a dumbass move to make an HDJrpg for either console unless its multiplat. But its more of a dumbass move to make one exclusive for the 360 why? because as mentioned before the 360 has little to no userbase in Japan where the majority of most JRPG sales are made. is it the American lead? because if you think about it. The PS3 has a significant edge where the majority of JRPG's make their mark and sales. Its pretty close to the 360 in the sales of the Other and theres a gap not a big one mind you in America.

Why arent there more JRPG's on the PS3.....only God Knows

Uh... so DVD is outdated because Sony sez so? Can you imagine the budget of a multiple disc Blu-ray game? Exponentially higher development costs, yet the game would sell about as many copies as any other JRPG (i.e. not that many).

One who knows nothing can understand nothing, indeed.
