Forums - Gaming - China Wars Vs Liberty City Stories.

GTA should really well on whatever platform. But looking at similar titles on the DS, especially the Call of Duty games, I doubt it can reach a million.

Around the Network

Chinatown Wars on the DS will definately sell at least million, its GTA the one of the biggest gaming franchises that sells a lot on every platform (PSP does not move much software, yet GTA sold loads) and its on the DS the most popular console ever released with large userbase that buys loads of games.

GTA is a very casual friendly title and many of those 18+ DS owners will buy GTA, just like they bought San Andreas on the PS2 or GTA IV on their Xbox, and there are the "gamers" that like GTA series and wanted it on Nintendo console, so the game will definately sell well. Can it match sales of the Liberty City Stories? Chinatown Wars might not be able to do it but i think it will sell around 4 million at least, but next installment definately (before DS lifespan ends).

CW also has more lines of code than GTA: SA according to Rockstar. It's quite a large development.

Chrizum and Tremble. You two are using CoD DS as a baseline to predict GTA sales? Let me get this straight. A farmed out handheld port of a major franchise released simultaneously with the full console games and with no exclusive advertising is your baseline sales model for the largest portable undertaking from the head development studio of the largest 3rd party franchise with exclusive marketing and budget?

OT: Will it hit 5 million? Depends on retail support and marketing. If either drop the ball, it won't hit 5 million.

I think it'll alienate a lot of GTA fans that want the console experience of a third person game. The bird's eye view could very well be a hindrance for the game, even though it was necessary. I don't think it's selling five million but it will do well.

That's like saying New Super Mario Bros might alienate Mario fanboys on the basis that it throws out the 3d 3rd person perspective.

The only GTA games I have enjoyed were birds eye view

They put some real horrible bastardized GTA games on the GBC and GBA.  But that's like looking at the sales of the CD-i versions of Zelda and basing future Zelda game sales on them.

The only GTA games i enjoyed were birds eye view as well. However that isn't how the series is currently thought of.  And it's not similar to saying that NSMB would alienate because if I'm not mistaken the 2D marios have always been more popular than thier 3D variants.  I don't believe we can say the same of GTA.
