We'll see. Considering they have 'markedly larger staff' working on Chinatown Wars, anything less than Liberty City Stories would be a huge disappointment.

Yeah i guess u are right only time will tell.
I think this depends on what kind of experience China Wars offers. If it offers great replayability, and multiplayer play, and is designed for play on the go, then it has a chance of staying out of the trade in bin, and force people to buy new copies if they want it.

It's not the kind of game that would be suited to porting, it uses the touch screen extensively without playing to any of the strengths of the PSP.
A game I'm developing with some friends:
www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm
It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
It's pretty obvious why LCS is cheaper than china wars:
- Almost same engine
- Almost same character
- Almost same gameplay
= Reducing costs!
The last birds eye GTA game was GTA2.
So no, it won't sell as well as Liberty City Stories, nor will it be as good.
Install bases are not the only things that matter. For example, MGS4 releasing on a 15 million userbase will outsell MGS3 releasing on what, a 60 million userbase?
I'm sure I could be wrong here but wouldn't anyone that already wanted a portable GTA have picked up a PSP. They have already released two.
Not to mention third parties have rarely proved to understand what makes games sell a ton on the DS and Wii. Not saying that it will be unsuccessful as I can totally see it moving around 3 million copies or so just because of the massive DS userbase, i just don't quite see it beating LCS.
