Forums - Gaming - Hirai: Xbox "lacks longevity"

Sony maintains "official leadership in this industry", says Kazuo Hirai

Sony Computer Entertainment's ever-confident chairman Kazuo Hirai has said that the Xbox 360 "lacks longevity", and remains certain PS3 will finish on top.

Hirai said that, regardless of install base, or who sold more and when, "I'd like to think that we continue official leadership in this industry."

He told Official PlayStation Magazine: "It's difficult to talk about Nintendo because we don't look at their console as being competitors. They're a different world and we operate in our world - that's kind of the way I look at things.

"And with the Xbox - again, I can't come up with one word to fit. You need a word that describes something that lacks longevity," said Hirai.

"Last time I checked, they've never had a console that's been on the market for more than four or five years and we've committed to a ten year life cycle, so you do the math.

"And unless things go really bad," added Hirai, "there's no way that at the end of a life cycle our competition is going to have a higher install base."

While Sony keeps saying PS3 has potential and is future proof.....Microsoft is aquiring more game franchises and outselling the PS3 by 50k a week.

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

Was Nintendo this thick and delusional when they were losing marketshare to Sega in 1992-1993 or in 1995-2005 to the playstation brand?

I somehow doubt it...

They were more arrogant than stupid...  mostly Yamauchi's fault.

Satoru Iwata is so much better

I could be wrong though, perhaps someone should have a search to try find some idiotic press releases around that time.... although there was the "SEGA / AGES" thing... ie Sega came out with the slogan "to be this good takes AGES" and Nintendo retaliated with the rather bland version of "takes SEGA AGES"

"I'd like to think that we continue official leadership in this industry."

This should help us to understand the ways of his deluded mind XD

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

Hirai is correct. Microsoft is not innovative at all so their one trick pony will fall out of favor eventually :D

If you aren't playing B3YOND, you're playing behind

Playstation 3: It Only Does Everything

Somebody give the 360 some viagra, then...
