DaGreatestHope, leave the thread. You're not contributing anything. Resistance 2 had a helluva lot more hype and coverage than Call of Duty on the Wii.

NPD showed higher figures for the game than Vgchartz had so it got adjusted.

Remember that hype that Wii controls will be the best thing for FPS? So Wii motion controls for FPS hav helluva alot more hype and coverage than the outdated analog set up on the HD consoles.

So therefore FPS should be selling expectionally well on the Wii if thats the case.

You were asked to leave the thread. You're warned.

That's good to hear that it got adjusted up :)

Although I believe the initiators of the 'CoDWaW:Wii is undertracked movement' were expecting an even more dramatic adjustment, to take its lifetime to 750k or so. Is it possible that the 'others' numbers could also get adjusted up? (assuming that so far only the Americas numbers have been)

It's still just a week away from outselling 3, which took over two years to get that far. A million is looking likely again.

World at War Wii flopped. Why would you buy this when the HD versions are so much better?

So the TC is going on how Resistance 2 flopped despite on a 19.5 million PS3 userbase?

But this game is a success on a 42 million userbase?

it's evident that you don't know what it means for a game to flop. let me clear it up for you!

a game flops when it fails to make a profit! World at War for the Wii cost less to make, there for it needs to sell less to make a profit!

there for resistance flops because it doesn't sell enough to cover it's cost to make and promote!

Don't you start.

But I will say unless Resistance 2 cost over $30 million, and stops selling now (again, it's legs are as good as the first game), it's not a flop.

that's an interesting statement, let's calculate that through:

Insomniac has a total staff of 145 people and we know they worked on Res2 for 2 years (with varying staff-size, as they completed R&CF:ToD and R&CF:QfB during that same time).

Let's be generous and say an Insomniac employee gets $5k a month on average, which is 5,000 x 145 x 12 x 2 for the 2 years = $17,400,000.

The game itself sold roughly 700k in US, which in revenue for Sony+Insomniac might be $40 ($20 for the shops) x 700,000 = $28,000,000.

In europe it sold 500k units, if we say on average 35€ per unit (most sold in UK and the british pound sterling is weak right now) it's 35€ x 500,000 = 17,500,000€ x 1.326$/€ = $23,205,000.

Let's leave out Japan and go on to the total which is $51,205,000 for Sony+Insomniac, so Insomniac only needs 34% of this number to cover all it's personal costs during the development time and Sony should really be able to cover it's localization, advertising, producing and shipping costs with the rest.

This thread is not about Resistance. I was just trying to correct a couple points.

@Lafiel: I agree with the conclusion that Resistance 2 is a commercial success.

A few points though:

1. If someone earns $5000 a month, the costs for the employer are much higher, since office space, equipment, taxes, health insurance and other stuff goes on top of that.

2. You use sold numbers, while Sony gets paid per unit shipped. Which I would assume is quite a bit higher for R2, which only launched quite recently.

Either way, R2 has legs, like CoD Wii, so neither game is a flop.

It still seems COD WAW Wii is undertracked. Is there a link with NPD numbers specifically showing its numbers?

All I really care about is COD WAW Wii making more than enough for Activision to say, " umm....it didnt sell millions on Wii but we are making a great profit considering the amount of work to port to Wii. I dont think we should skip out on making more money on COD MW2 Wii."
