Forums - Nintendo - Why does the conduit look so bad?

The wii is just a bit more powerful then the orignal xbox as we all know, but why havent the wii games looked as good as the xbox? like seriously... the conduit could look soooooooooooo much better, dont get me wrong it looks alright but look at the first halo.. anyways it was just athought i had

When was the last time you played Halo?  I played it just recently, comparing Halo to the Conduit?  Uh no...  Halo is a good game but it never used the effects that the conduit shows off.   Go back and play the game and see for yourself.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

EDIT: Right Click then View Image.... although it'll be slightly too small... But in my opinion, the Conduit looks A LOT better the Halo, and quite a bit better then Halo 2...

Just saw the comparison with Halo1. I dont think i'll even rent the conduit. After games like COD4, resistance2, farcry2 (which i play now) and soon Killzone2, the conduit will look and feel really old..

But i own both PS3 and Wii, for wii-only owners i guess is passable

I own a Wii and 360 and it is definitely passable for me.  And after playing MP3 and RE4 Wii, using a controller to aim seems so retarded that I don't think I can ever buy a shooting game on 360.

Fun comes from the way that u control a game AND from what you see on the screen. If one the two is not there then there is no fun (IMO). MAybe for you using a controller is retarded, but for me the experience is ruined by bad graphics, animations, effects and physics. Its the experience as a whole that matters

I know what you're talking about I watched Youtube videos for Killzone 2 and The Conduit last night. The Conduit kind of reminds me of Virtua Cop while Killzone 2 does have incredible visuals especially when you're looking through the scope and things are exploding.

The thing that is really noriceable to me about The Conduit from the videos that I watched is that in comparison to Gears, Halo, Killzone, probably Resistance, is that other than your main enemy, there doesn't seem to be much else on screen. Kind of like in the old days when you were playing Doom and just walking down bare halls. They do have a scene where you are near some water that seems to be moving in a realistic way, but it has nothing on the way water behaves in Gears or Uncharted.

There is some good detail on your primary enemies especially the more human ones like a modern version of Virtua Cop would have, but again not that much other detail. Halo 1 and 2 had quite a bit of environmental detail.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

@ op - Have you played it yet? Until you see it in person, you probably shouldn't judge the game yet. I think it will look at least better than Halo 2 when done.

I'm sorry if someone has posted something similar to this already...

It's really about the design of the game in the end. The engine for The Conduit seems promising, but I personally don't like the design of the game. Boxy looking weapons in some cases, bright garish colours in areas, and men in rubber alien outfit looking baddies.

Tech wise seems good though, but a lot of their vidoes seem to be emphasizing the tech too much. I saw one recently where they boasted how the screen turns grey when you are being shot at to show you how bad your health is. I don't find that impressing at all. They need to impress us with well placed lights in the scene, interesting gun battle situations, unique special effects etc. Saying "we got the same as everything" else doesn't interest me really.

I hope it turns out to be a good game in then end. All the intentions behind the game seem good, so I don't want to be nasty. A AAA shooter on the Wii will shut a lot of nutters up.

The developer certainly does seem to have a fashion for what he's trying to do.  I see a score of about 8.5 to 9.2 for this game, but its a Wii game, so that doesn't translate into how great or not great it will sell.

the video you watched is a dev diary, it's not that they are boasting about it, they are just letting people know what's in the game =P. my problem with the game really atm is that the Wii can only produce flat surfaces because it has no shader but im sure there are ways to get around it, bump mapping is one way but that can only go so far, we'll see what factor 5 comes up with their engine soon hopefully, hopefully the controls in conduit will be good too and that the game will be even more polished in May.

Saying that a Wii has the same or slightly better graphics than the XBOX is laughable. The GameCube can produce better graphics than the XBOX if used correctly. Just look at RE4. People tend to look at misleading specifications when it came to the XBOX vs GC debate and then ignore the reality. That is what they do with the Wii also. The Wii is a few times more powerfull than an XBOX graphically speaking.

False. there is nothing GC ever had that could match a game liek Ninja Gaiden graphically. Heck, the game looked as good as the PS3 launch titles.

I'll bet you the dev cost, dev time, and funding on KZ2 is far greater than The Conduit =P(same goes for Bungie games) I do hope KZ2 will rock the house though, looks fun. Conduit does need better looking environmental textures and more bump mapping on the walls and ground imo, but think about the amount of cash poured in and the dev time, it's really not too bad.
