Forums - Gaming - Is the death of non-shooters upon us?

Wii

Total Games: 4

Notables

PS3/360 actually have non shooter games selling well.  A non-shooter thats not on a Nintendo system is the #1 game of the month.  Very few Wii games but they 3 of them are in the Top 5, all of a different genre.

360/PS3

Total Games: 6

Genres: Shooter (5), Sports (1)

Wii

Total Games: 9

Genres: Minigame (2), Fitness (1), Racing (1), Music (2), whatever Animal Crossing qualifies as (1), Shooter (1), Sports (1)

Notables

Madden makes a surprise return to the charts.  It is also the only non-shooter for the PS3/360.  Still no Little Big Planet, Mirror's Edge, Banjo 3 or Prince of Persia... all well reviewed non-shooter games.

Woe for the 360/PS3 owner who doesn't like shooters.  I cry a river for the one that also dislikes sports games.  Do you think it bodes well for the future if developers see that if you're going to be a non-shooter, you're wasting your time by putting it on the 360/PS3.  Regardless of quality, nobody really cares about it.

Of course not....The genre gets just more popular.

Well you need to invent a genre and sell your idea to gaming companies...2D platformers aint taking the chartz by storm again any time soon

I'm going to invent a genre where you play in a plane or spaceship on a screen that moves up or sideways and blast enemies while collecting powerups to make yourself stronger.

Dunno what I'll call it though.

Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia, Banjo Kazooie, Midnight Club, Motorstorm 2, Valyria Chronicles, End War, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, and any genre outside of shooters are now 2d platformers?  Interesting...

No, they would be neglecting too many people...

You should get what I'm saying...3d platformer had its shake at the top...Fighting ruled form 1990-1997...racing was dominant in late 90s early 2000... sandbox was the shit from 2002-2005. Its the FPS's turn to shine. We need a new genre, not something that was popular before...

No.

Dont forget that games like God of War, Zelda, and other well known titles that rely mostly on melee weaponry and/or magic didn't come out this year. Those games always outsell most of the average shooter games.

Shooters taking over? nahh.
Maybe on xbox... but on wii and ps3 theres a way more wider variety of games played
