They're evidence. I got more points than you in Geometry Wars. I beat Akuma in Super Street Fighter. I used all of the weapons in Gears of War. I finished Call of Duty 4 on a harder level. I can give you my word or you can look at my Achievements.

Go ahead. Look at my e-penis. It won't hurt you.

Howmany points did you get in Geometry Wars?

Actually, not that many.  That game is crazy!

Replay value.

It helps set defined goals in a game that would otherwise not be there. It's a great way to track your progress on a game, over all games. I wouldn't have played some of the games I have, nor played them as much as it wasn't for achievements. And for the most part (if not all of it), I enjoyed the extra challenge of beating Call of Duty 2 on Veteran when CoD2 launched.

Colonel - Probably a game that has an E rating.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

The best part for me is they get you to play a game inside out, it sort of makes me feel like a kid again.

As a kid I had no choice but to master games and do EVERYTHING as I wouldn't get another for a good few months. I'd explore all corners, do all difficulties etc. Anywho, then I grew up, got a job, and wouldn't really give the games the playthrough they deserve.

Trophies give me an incentive to not skip the hardest mode or miss the secret area just cause something else is out, and you get a sense of achievement out of it more then just doing it in the first place. Obviously I'm not going to bother if the games sucks or the trophies are boring, but alot of the time they just extend a games life and allow me to give it the attention it deserves.

They made me enjoy games alot more again for some reason... probably because it's lead to me playing them more and waiting for new releases to get cheap :).

cause if you dont get the achievments then you are not really finishing the game, if you dont finish the game your wasting money...

Yeah.  I compared us on xbox.com immediately after your post asking about our scores.  You are pretty impressive, bimmy!  I did score a few victories over you, but I think that it's because you weren't interested in a lot of those games.  I should buy Geometry Wars 2.  Apparently the Achievement points are pretty easy to obtain.........

:p

Play Gears of War on insane and beat the whole thing. You'll appreciate achievements more. Achievements are really an added incentive they make you feel proud like you've done something. Also, some are good to brag about if you can get them.

Now Playing: Crysis 2

Last Finished: BulletStorm

Online IDs: PSN: computermaximus, XBL: computermaximus

Few are...but there is 2 that are tough. One called smily face took me about 3 months of playing almost every day for 15-30 minutes.

I dont actively hunt achievements, but when i get one im happy. And um, what exactly is a christian friendly game?

Games like Interactive Parables, The Bible Game, Spiritual Warfare, Veggie Tales games, Heavenly Harmony, etc.

I do not get why a lot of my fellow gamers like achievements.  I could care less about them.

Before anyone goes all off, I own all of the current consoles and hand helds. I have my own personal tastes, but I try family friendly and Christian friendly games on all machines.

For those that like achievements, please explain it to me.  What do you like about them? Do you use that to pick up chicks? Does it help passing the driving exam? Do you use it in conversation anywhere?

Do you get any real money for any achievements? Free games? DVDs? Something? Is it just a look at me I'm Sandra Dee?

Most of the gaming sites talk about achievements like its the greatest thing since the Holy Bible. Not one has ever explained why its so great. And I don't get it.  Esplain it to me.

I'm with you, peanut.

Achievements are totally youthless.

I remember back in the Arcades (you know coin-ops), I felt getting "High score" was a big thing, and I always played to get a highest possible score, always risking my life (and money) by hunting for bonus points or by not using my bombs if they would give some extra points after each level. Often I was bragging about my score too, while my friend didn't give a shit and only cared for the experience.

So I understand why people care, but today I'm like my friend (except that I admit that I'm pretty impressed by high Gamerscores that people have in their signs here on VGC). The worst thing IMO is that achievements are such a waste of time.  The hours I have available to spend on games I want to use as effectively as possible - to experience "quality hours" by playing many different games, to beat the games, to experience the game worlds and by playing good online matches.
