Forums - Sony - Mass Effect Trilogy Coming to PS3?(GDC Announcement)

mass effect 2 should be and will be on ps3, as will be bioshock 2.

theres simply no point what soever in EA keeping it exclusive when its against thier policy not to do exclusive games.

360 may have exclusive dl content but base game should be multiplat.

To the folks arguing about ME1 coming to the PS3: PS3 fans win.

Here's proof: http://forums.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=607257&forum=22&sp=0

If he says it's coming, you can bet your bottom dollar.

I apologize for doubting the power of the PS3 world.

well its not confirmed or anything so we cant say untill its announced, but EA spent a lot of money aquiring bioware so its pointless for them in a way to keep games on one console.

O but wait... they will spend more money to port Part 1 to the PS3..

That did well with Bioshock.

Can you share with us that inside info you obviously have that ps3 port of bioshock didn't make any money? :)

Well, one thing is pretty obvious - EA are going to want everything with a chance to sell well multi-platform to be multi-platform, that's a no-brainer.

As for ME games specifically, they will put in on PS3 if/when contacts allow and if they believe they will get sufficient sales to justify it. BTW I believe Bioshock sales on PS3 actually would justify it, as given the circumstances it was never going to sell much more but it gets the franchise on the PS3 and is Bioshock 2 opens on both at the same time it is sure to sell much better on PS3 than 1.

So for ME its down to what contracts MS had with Bioware and what were the terms of the purchase and where it leaves ownership of the IP and the current ME game specifically.

Some contracts, if they don't explicitly cover change of owner, become null-in-void - i.e. if MS/Bioware contract did not provision for change of owner then EA might have a free hand. This would surprise me though, adding something for change of owner is pretty standard and I would imagine MS lawyers get paid enough to make sure it would be in place to cover anything MS was sinking money into.

More likely I think is that ME 1 remains 360 due to contracts but EA are probably otherwise free to steer any other ME games to PS3 as well as I suspect they own the IP fully now in terms of its usage.

No company in EA's position is going to want a title like this exclusive to one platform when they have most of their more recent games selling well on both PS3/360 and stand to make more money by serving both install bases.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Bioware owned IP of Mass effect, but most likely rights of first ME game were Microsoft, because they published it. After EA acquired Bioware, MS and EA did make agreement where EA did get publishing rights of first ME game to PC and MS did get...something.

It's more than likely that MS didn't want any money about those rights. Timed exclusivity maybe? Or maybe MS did did give rights of PC release to EA and pay some extra to EA to get full trilogy exclusive to XBox360/PC.

EA/Microsoft did make some kind of deal. The part we know about was MS keeps publishing rights for Mass Effect for 360 (even console maybe), and EA does PC. We have to believe they also made some sort of other part of the deal for the rest of the series. Microsoft did pay to have the first developed after all.

After the poor sales of PS3 Bioshock (to little to late and at full price), and with the 360 and PC at budget and out so long already I doubt they will touch this....................

my prediction is ME2 will be announced to be coming to the PS3...However MS will be getting exclusive DLC

honestly this is very possible.

 I highly agree.

Sounds a tad bogus to me and Mass Effect (to me) is a PC title anyways. I hope they don't rush the trilogy, seems like there's only about a year-and a half in development or so planed for #2 and 3.
I'm more excited about Dragon Age actually, seems like some good old Bioware fantasy action, which hasn't been the same since BG imo.

Well if true, hopefully they port from the PC version and not the 360's... that version barely ran on it's designated console >
I'm with the 360 crowd on this one though, I still highly doubt ME1 will see breath on the PS3, although that does make it a conundrum as I feel ME2 and 3 will be on the Sony box. Mass Effect Subsistence anyone? ;) Same game + Extras + New name = Win.
