Forums - Sony - 2009: Will the PSP strike back in the west?

LBP and Motostorm portable have never been confirmed, and if they actually exist, they won`t be nearly as good as their console counterparts. Remember LBP and Motorstorm are "only possible on PS3". And finally, they have never been system sellers for the PS3, which should they be for the PSP?

I predict PSP2 launch in 2010!

It has a great line up, the software hasnt been good to psp in west wonder how those games will do.

No it won't GT PSP would provide a nice boost in EU, but no game can really help it in the West. I wonder if R* will go back to the PSP if Chinatown Wars flops. (Anything less than 2 million would be a massive flop)

When you can name more titles with western appeal the PSP will strike back in the west.

psp2 competing with the DS atm is suicide.

Wot??? PSP2 in 2009? Are u serious? I really don't think sony's gonna lose some more money in 2009 to launch a new handheld. The PSP is doing fine, it could be better, but it brings cash to sony right now, that's the most important.

True, but generally console maker try to release a new console soon after there last one peak(which the PSP already did worldwide) so as to keep momentum and to keep up with the competition, they don't wait until all the sale of the old console are dried up (see PS2->PS3) because it permit the competition to put themselve in better position for the next generation. IOW, as PSP sale decline and DS sale still strong, they may lose the few third party support they have. Even the GTA serie, which sold really well on the PSP, have gone to the DS(for one installment at least)

Their financial situation aside, this holiday season would be a good time for Sony to release there new handheld. The last redesign did nothing to rejuvanate sale and it seem that it's as far as they can go with that core design, software sale are low and probably won't get better. Waiting more would just mean losing more market share to Nintendo.

Current financial situation and current PS3 situation(it need Sony first party full attention) may well mean it won't though.

PS: I am pretty sure it's Monster Hunter(~3mil) that boosted PSP sale in Japan, not Crisis Core(~0.7 mil)

Persons without argument hide behind their opinion

Well Sony PR had to combine the sales of both God of War and Crisis Core FF7 to obtain the magical figure of "over a million sold" in US for 2008.
That should tell you how anemic is the PSP situation in the west.

I'm pretty sure it will only need sell a fraction of 2m to not be a flop.

And I'm sure they didn't need Liberty City Stories to sell 5 million alone on the PSP.

No GTA game will lose money, I'm talking amount of profit. What's the point of doing a DS one that sells 1-2 million if you can make one on PSP that sells 3-5 million.
