Wot??? PSP2 in 2009? Are u serious? I really don't think sony's gonna lose some more money in 2009 to launch a new handheld. The PSP is doing fine, it could be better, but it brings cash to sony right now, that's the most important.

True, but generally console maker try to release a new console soon after there last one peak(which the PSP already did worldwide) so as to keep momentum and to keep up with the competition, they don't wait until all the sale of the old console are dried up (see PS2->PS3) because it permit the competition to put themselve in better position for the next generation. IOW, as PSP sale decline and DS sale still strong, they may lose the few third party support they have. Even the GTA serie, which sold really well on the PSP, have gone to the DS(for one installment at least)

Their financial situation aside, this holiday season would be a good time for Sony to release there new handheld. The last redesign did nothing to rejuvanate sale and it seem that it's as far as they can go with that core design, software sale are low and probably won't get better. Waiting more would just mean losing more market share to Nintendo.

Current financial situation and current PS3 situation(it need Sony first party full attention) may well mean it won't though.

PS: I am pretty sure it's Monster Hunter(~3mil) that boosted PSP sale in Japan, not Crisis Core(~0.7 mil)
