I take it the hardware data is November & December combined? Is there not separate data available for both months?

See PS3 has now taken the "current gen home console" lead. Wii closing in on 360 too. Still, pretty good LTD for 360 in Italy, will be over 300K now.

DS really killed PSP over the holiday period, but will be interesting to see if it along with Wii and PS2 will be able to keep similar market shares now the holiday season is over. My theory is that the cheaper consoles should receive the biggest boost at Christmas, but then take the biggest drop after, but we will see.

PS3 managed to outsell the PS2 in November as well as October after 40Gb released, quite impressive seeing how much more PS2 was selling earlier in the year. PS3 wasn't too far behind in December either which is pretty good seeing how much cheaper the PS2 is and more likely to be bought as a gift. Seems like Italians are starting to upgrade to the PS3 since Sony lowered the price.

It seems the PS2 is the PS3 biggest competitor for Italy. Usually I would say the 360 would be, considering more feature and game overlap but the 360 isn't popular enough.

I think there's a lot of potential for a slimline PS3 in the future if the PS2 would be discontinued someday like the GameCube and XBox.

I think GfK Italy get data from 90% of stores and they just give the totals without extrapolating to 100%.

I would expect them to release a slim PS3 when the Cell & RSX die gets shrunk to 45nm, maybe around the start of 2009. This might coincide with FFXIII release, so maybe they'll do a bundle similar to what they did with the PSP and FF in Japan. Pure speculation, but it wouldn't surprise me after seeing what it did for PSP hardware sales there.

Now, i am not sure, has x360 even passed 19 mln. by the end of 2007. =))
While PS3 definetely made 9 mln. by the end of 2007. :)

Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 23rd Apr 1989 to 30th Dec 2007:

Wii - 263,508
PS3 - 328,160
360 - 340,630
PSP - 987,936
NDS - 1,797,988
PS2 - 5,210,660

Well, when the GfK data is extrapolated to 100% DS and PSP are pretty much spot on. 360 is only about 10K higher on VGC, with Wii being 20K lower than GfK on VGC, neither of which is anything major. PS3 is about 40K lower on VGC than GfK, though, and PS2 is about 300K lower on VGC .
