So far, the only two companies that have won generations are Sony and Nintendo. I don't know about the 1st and 2nd generations though, I think Atari dominated both...

All those 3 companies won with their first consoles:

1st Gen: Atari????

2nd: Atari (2600)

3rd: Nintendo (NES)

4th: Nintendo (SNES)

5th: Sony (ps1)

6th: Sony (ps2)

This gen it's going to be Nintendo again, and I think they will win next gen too because of the Wii's success this gen. Since every single company so far won two gens in a row.

So will Microsoft have the most sales in the 9th generation of consoles? I think they will push the xbox brand far enough and have a lot of support to beat Sony and Nintendo. But then again it's really unpredictable in what they all could do, and some new company may enter the business and change everyhing.

So what do you guys think? Will Microsoft win one or not?

P.S. Can someone tell me if Atari did win the first gen?

Yeah. According to your logic, Microsoft should win at least two of them as well.

Without looking it up, remembering back to my atari days (i was say 4 years old to about 8 maybe with an atari 2600, till I got a NES), I had 2600, but everyone else had Intellivision, or Colecovision, and I was very jealous.  Also I remember a guy with games for commodore on cassette tapes that loaded for 20 minutes.

Sooner or later Microsoft will win a generation.  I think Nintendo might go way too crazy on their next console, and Sony keeps losing support.  If MS keeps building it has to happen some day.

It's pretty hard to predict tho.  

Who knows? As far as I am concerned, Nintendo won this generation for sure.

i wudn't be suprised if in a miracle sony takes it again this generation, you never know.

they will eventually win a generation, as long as they stay in the games console business.

If they keep progressing even half as fast as they have done this generation, they won't be too far off next generation anyway :)

Microsoft is gonna win the HD console war this time around. But Xbox needs more casuals if they ever want to be number 1 overall. Its possible if Sony drops out like some people believe.

Does Microsoft NEED to win the console war? The problem is you're looking at it as winners and losers and it doens't need to be that way. For instance, with the Genesis, sega won too.
