What do the raise hitpoint chests look like? I keep getting things to upgrade weapons, but not anything to add hit points or reduce damage. I am now going nuts with Steve and mech projectile attacks mostly.

The issue I ran into was that I kept getting killed early. I addressed that with a few Steve upgrades and also some grinding with Monica. I still would like to beef up the defensive side though.

I do find Gamefaqs is good for things that are linear in their approach. I also had luck at times finding videos for specific games.

I am currently at Chapter 2 I believe, Butterfly Forest. Just managed to get past the swamp area.

You don't find the hp chests (really, you get specific items from them that raise defense and either max's or monica's hp) in dunegons. There are some of them in the inital city. Keep progessing through butterfly forest and find those orbs for the georama machine. As you get some rebuild completion, go into the future and look for chests. I don't remember if there are any yet, but you might as well go there now to check for them. They are very small, not sure how to describe them other than that. Go into the village and the portal is towards the back. Remember to visit the future when it says "there has been a change in the future" to see what you did.

If I were you, I wouldn't rely on steve too much. Focus on building up Max's and Monica's weapons, especially the melee weapons. You really need to get blocking down and have some bread in your quick select so you don't die. Save after each dunegon level.

But what about those damn trees?  They take me down in 1-2 hits, and my weapons do nothing against them. I'm basically forced to use Steve.

I have a similar problem. Steve breaks down way too fast. I'm on the second level of the forest area, and they have far more trees than I can handle!

if i'm not mistaken, the trees are vulnerable to fire, so adding fire spheres to weapons with them in the upgrade path is a good idea. You are supposed to fight the large enemies with the ridepod, though this isn't entirely necassary (atleast not later on). Considering you are not very far and your characters are really weak, i'd go play the first forest level some more with the ridepod. Once you get enough exp with the ridepod, that workshop dude who fixes it will sell you upgrades for it. Remember, the ridepod can block, and you can use weapon powder to repair the weapon arm.The trees have a really predictible attack pattern and should be pretty easy to defeat.

If you don't have it already, the upgraded core is a MUST HAVE for the ridepod. It can be built or bought.

Also, if i remember correctly L3 switches between the current character and the ridepod, and R3 switches between the two characters. Extremely useful in the midst of battle.

The game says to use Steve on them, and any large enemies.  I believe you can use Steve, then quickly swap to whatever character you want to get experience.

I did this sooo much. You can defeat enemies with max/monica and give the exp to the ridepod as well.

In any forum with a large number of people, you will get what seems like everyone doing something.  It happened I am going through PS2 games now, and wanted to get back to Dark Cloud 2.  So, I post this and it got replies.

It is a coincidence, with this thread reminding people of the game, and people who played it, or may be playing it now, discussing it.  I am of the belief it is a cult fan title, with some people really liking it, but it flies under the radar.

I posted the question because I saw ameratsu had Dark Cloud 2 in the avatar pic section, so I figured at least one person here had to of played it.
