Hypothetical situation for PS3 owners only (please, only respond if you own a PS3):

In light of Sony's current financial situation, if investors deemed PSN should go to an Xbox LIVE pay-to-play online model, offering a top-tier premium model that would offers online gaming and the like for a fee, but still offered free PSN accounts that offers timed downloads, trailers and the likes, would you:

A. Pay for it. You love PSN so much it's worth your money and you are helping Sony out.

B. Get a free trial and make your decision right before the trial runs out.

C. Go to the free PSN and curse you can't play online for free anymore.

D. Give up PSN altogether

Honest answers. I would go with C for my PS3.

For the folks who would pay - what is the maximum you would pay to get online?

I'd suck it up and pay. Wouldn't be happy though.

I probably would pay too, but I'd definitely be mad, and I'd make sure that Sony knew that. I just can't live without LBP and Resistance 2 online. =(

I'm not strictly against paying though, it's just a matter of using it very rarely (pretty much only the occasional LBP game).

It would also make me shift some of my online gaming away from PS3, instead favoring PC games with unrestricted free online.  However, with Sony charging for things like Qore and making money off of DLC in Home, LBP and other games, I seriously doubt your hypothetical situation would happen.

Also, Microsoft tried to charge money for windows live, a comparable service to xbox live. That fell flat on its face and Microsoft was forced to provide the service for free, as PC gamers know that online play for games you own should be free, mmorpgs notwithstanding.

Ok ... to add a fly to the ointment - would you pay IF you can share an account with your PSP for the same price?

And ... what is the max per month and per year you'd pay?

The max I would pay is exactly how much I am paying for it now, its the reason I am not renewing my Gold membership. I shouldnt have to pay for online gaming, I wouldnt have to if I was on PC

As Sony is in a horrible position, they probably should go the Xbox live gold way for multiplayer and on the other hand, offer Qore for free, just like Xbox live silver gets those free videos, tips and stuffs.
