Forums - Sales - Did NPD Undertrack Wii in December?

In this case, there is definitely good reason to doubt NPD's numbers.

I don't really care about the ~500k difference (including the November difference), it's more about the weirdness of December weeks being smaller than November ones. I just can't get my head around it, so I'm pretty suspicious.

I think we will know after Nintendo announces their financial year end numbers

Given that shipments and sales are so closely linked thanks to sell outs, you have a point.

If that does turn out to be the case, NPD may want to renegotiate their former contracts with Wal-Mart and Toys R' Us or else face misrepresenting the industry again and losing face to VGC who suggested sales possibly more in line with actual shipment figures.

What does NPD care?

Didn't they just settle a lawsuit where they knowingly undertracked a company's games and then refused to offer adjustments or corrections.

Anything is possible, of course, and you've presented a scenario in which NPD may have undertracked the Wii. One would think Nintendo's PR would have said something in that case, but it's still plausible.

We'll find out for sure in a few days, I suppose.

Maybe... then again... Nintendo's sales are already really good... it's not like the drop hurt their prices or anything.

They may see it advantageous to hold off... to get two boosts instead of one.
