Forums - General - VGC Debate/Poll: The Death Penalty

I don't think there are ENOUGH "unnecessary" appeals and court costs when the death penalty is involved, because we STILL accidentally kill innocent people. So if you want to make executions cheaper than life sentences, you're going to have to do that by reducing appeals and making it easier to accidentally kill MORE innocent people.

OK good points and posts.

Thanks elprinciple I guess that does make a little more sense to me now.

The death penalty is boring. We should switch it up. Maybe, cut off the person's limbs and make them eat them raw, then put them in a sack, and throw them down the side of a mountain!

Seriously though, I'm against the death penalty.

Letting someone rot in prison for the rest of their lives is the best punishment becuase death always eventually comes.

Deprive them of the sunshine, the beauty of the world. Subject them to the dark abyss that is eternity. Death lasts forever add onto the burden that is life looking forward to nothing but death.

Kill them by keeping them alive. Tis justice.

If a government makes murder illegal then its hypocritical for said government to have the death penalty.

I am against the death penalty, but am not happy with the alternative either.  The jails here in Canada are way to soft, and the sentences are far too lenient.  If you are convicted of murder your cell should be a pitch dark small room with nothing to do but sit there all day long.  (death is too lenient, and is also not something I belive any one/system should be able to bestow upon someone.)

Murder, by definition is the unlawful taking of life. Your arguement is nonsensical.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Its called double standards and I'm not a fan of double standards, especially when dealing with governments.
