Forums - Sony - Could Apple end up buying Sony?

Could Apple buy Sony? Maybe, if they really really wanted to. But why would they want to?

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Exactly.  If Apple wanted into the games market they could come in by themselves...

The AppleStation 360...

That would be madness!

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

apple can't waste money just like this. Sony is drowning in every department. Would Apple want a sinking ship? They also have to comply to the inverstors and board of directors. They can't just decide to buy something. hence, they won't buy Sony.

Apple is too smart to do this.

Traditionally, Apple has purchased smaller efficient companies not for brand awareness but because of their specialty in a particular technological area.

I'm not a fanboy, I just try to tip the balance in favor of logic and common sense.

I don't think Apple usually buys into big companies. They will buy smaller companies to build new products.

Also, Apple has a history of screwing their partners. Dealing with them is like dealing with the devil. Look at what they did to Motorola.

What DID they do to motorola?  Just curious.

Before the iPhone, Apple partnered with Motorola to create a new phone. Through that partnership, they built a teriible phone together called the Rokr that used iTunes. However, while they were designing the Rokr, Apple took all that expertise provided by Motorola and used it to create the iPhone behind Motorola's back. Then one day Apple said we're outta here, and shortly thereafter announced the iPhone.

You know, that story is a tad too simillar to something that our little friend uncle Bill pulled, isn't it?

Thinking about OS/2?

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I want Apple to create their own console. I want to see them fail.

I can't stand apple-products at all. They create average hardware but price it twice as high as the competition and judge this price with "design" and tons of money spent for advertising. This might work out in a market with unexperienced customers, but this would fail so hard with videogames. Casual is all in Nintendos hand, hardcore is a tough fight between MS and Sony. There is no room for apple.

Using the iphone / ipod as a gaming device is smart, because they start with a large userbase. But a non-portable console for Apple would not be possible.

And I don't see third party developers making games for a 4th console. Some say 3 consoles is one too much.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
