Sony provides not so much spin but a healthy dose of head in the sand!

@pap

get real... do you expect ANY manufacturer or company to actually say where they have done badly? Name me one company that does that... just one.

No, I don't expect a company to be truthful (although I would like it to be so), but the point I was making, is that it is only factual by eliminating / withholding information (which - as you said - any company does).

Eliminate enough of the downsets, to create a upside to the story.  The only company not forced to do this, is the one that is at the top.

Therefore, it IS spin

Im sure nintendo wouldn't dare mention software sales revenue.

I'm with you on the rest, but Nintendo does say this. Repeatedly. Because they've been selling more games, even third-party, than the 360 for a few months now, and they're not shy about saying that.

You may have noticed that Microsoft says "more life-to-date dollars at retail for third-party publishers," thus introducing two big qualifiers: Life-to-date (remember the headstart) and "dollars" (Remember that 360 games are more expensive).

But it's like you said: the purpose of PR is to make yourself look good, so that's why Microsoft is saying what they're saying, while being careful not to lie.

Could be true on those 2 points. But I am not sure wii makes more revenue than 360 for 3rd party publishes even if we dont look at the 360 head start.

I still don't see how wii sells more 3rd party software any week of they year.

Aggregate under-the-radar stuff, I suppose. As I said, the claim of selling the most third-party games has been in Nintendo's response to the NPD for a bit now, and is no longer in Microsoft's (save with the above qualifiers). It seems clear that that's the case, or else we'd be told otherwise.

Am I the only one that got dizzy after reading this?

Well, Sony isn't on the top of the wave right now. Just like Nintendo wasn't with gamecube last era. They have to comment it somehow so :/

Ahhh One_Touch_KO.......you never cease to amaze me with these threads and posts.

Well, at least you remain consistent.....even if your consistency is in regards to a lack of intelligence in your topics and responses.....(slowly claps).

On topic: If you think that Sony or even Nintendo, for that matter, is innocent of spin regarding the NPD, or sales in general, you are mistaken. But hey, at least you identify if not scream your bias.

There may be an interesting game here. Working out how many qualifiers a company needs to spin a positive number.

In this example:

What microsoft wants to say is 'we sold more software than Wii'.

And what it said was: 'we sold more (lifetime-to-date)(dollars) of (third-party) software (in the USA)' .

Four qualifications.

That counts to me as a level-four spin.

Anyone else want to play spotting the spin-level?
